Luna grinned at me, a genuine smile that stole my breath. Suddenly I wasn’t putting this utter witch of an omega into her place but telling Luna how I felt.
I looked at her, brushing my hand down her shoulder. “You deserved so much better, love, I’m glad you finally gotten it.”
Luna melted against me, beaming. “Thank you. You too.”
She took Colton and Halos’s hands, and Dante slid to our side.
“It was wonderful seeing you again.” Luna seemed more confident talking to her old friend. “But as you can see, I have a wonderful pack to get back to.”
Luna led us away, toward the side of the exhibition center where there were recovery rooms. I beamed, pleased I’d come out on top of that little bit of grandstanding. It was harder when I was the person on the firing line, but when it was Luna who was being attacked, it was easy to tell that omega off.
We made it to one of the rooms, and Luna sank onto a couch with a sigh.
“What a horrible woman.” Dante wrinkled his nose, bringing our omega some water.
Halos settled next to her. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah.” Luna looked down at her hands. “I shouldn’t be so superficial, being happy I stood up Marie like that.”
“Don’t be worried. She was boorish.” I scoffed, sitting on her other side. “She was clearly trying to make you feel bad.”
Luna looked down at her hands. “It was all a lie. We don’t go cruising around the world living the high life.”
“I mean, no, you’re pregnant.” I patted Luna’s hand. “But once the baby is born and you’re back on your feet we can go.”
Luna blinked at me. “You said that so matter-of-factly. Like of course we can just jet over to Europe on a private yacht.”
I didn’t see what I was missing. Of course, Luna would need recovery time, all of the books said to expect at least six weeks before she would feel ready to move around too much, maybe more.
“Yes?” I glanced at Colton, but he just looked amused. That jerk. “I mean, we can go now, if you really want to, but you’re probably not going to want to find out if you like sailing while four months pregnant.”
Luna looked at Colton and then at me. “On the private yacht.”
“Sure.” Dante smirked. “We could go to the Maldives on my jet if you really like.”
Halos leaned over and kissed her cheek. “I don’t have a jet or a yacht, precious. But we did get some really amazing mulch in at the nursery the other day, and I’ve dropped some off at the cottage.”
“You didn’t have a jet or a yacht before. You have both now,” I grinned at the quiet alpha.
“That wasn’t a joke? For real?” Luna still looked dumbstruck.
“Sure? Why would I joke about taking a trip if we didn’t have one?” I was definitely missing something.
“Most people don’t have yachts, Quinn.” My omega laughed. “Of course I’m confused.”
“Right, of course.” I squeezed her hand. “It was petty of me to rub it in your friend’s face, but none of that was a lie.”
Luna looked sad for a moment, before the joy returned to her face. “You’re correct, I don’t want to travel right now. But after Peanut is born, then maybe we could go somewhere.”
She said the last bit shyly, like she expected us to deny her that.
“While we’re talking plans, can we look at houses?” I gave her my best puppy dog face. “I really think you’ll be a lot more settled once we do some house-hunting.”
“I feel like a burden.” She looked down at her hands again. “I’m not here because you guys are rich.”
“Of course, you’re not,” Dante said quickly. “No one thinks that.”
“No.” I touched her shoulder again, loving how soft her skin was. “I just want you happy. Another, slightly bigger place, will help you feel happier.”
