“But we were lost without you, Luna. The little peanut is just a bonus.”

“You two wouldn’t even be here if it wasn’t for me being pregnant.” I looked over at him, trying not to regret speaking my deepest worry out loud.

“We would have. I was already finding out about some sort of investigator to look you up.” Colton squeezed my hand again, his voice soft. “I worried I was stalking you and going back on my word to Quinn all at the same time.”

“I can see that.” I squeezed his hand back, needing reassurance. The sense of uncertainty still felt like an open wound, and a couple took that moment to stop right in front of us with bright smiles on their faces.

“Congratulations on adding to your pack!” The middle-aged beta man said, as the woman reached out to touch me.

Colton snatched me back. “Could we not touch strange pregnant omegas in public?”

“Jeez,” the woman flinched. “No need to be overprotective. We just wanted to congratulate you.”

“By touching strangers in public?” Colton bit out. “In what world is that acceptable?”

The couple huffed, and left, Colton glaring at them until they were out of eyesight.

I rolled my eyes. “It’s going to get worse as my bump gets bigger.”

Colton growled. “I’ll make you a sign. It will say “Do not touch the pregnant omega’. The “you idiot” will be heavily implied.”

I laughed and linked my arm in his. “Let’s just go back to my cottage. I might be persuaded to look at houses nearby.”

Chapter20

Luna

We drove back to my cottage, and I tried to picture moving. My feelings jumbled up at that. I loved my cottage, and my garden, but I also loved the idea of a house big enough for us to have our own spaces, and well as a nursery.

Maybe adding on to the cottage was the better choice, as weird as it would be for me to have strange construction workers in my space.

I opened the cottage door, looking at it with fresh eyes. The kitchen was more like a small closet, and there was really only a small breakfast nook. The living room was decent-sized, but the bedroom and nest were small. It was big enough for me, though, and when I was dating Thomas, Mark, and John, I’d never considered leaving my cottage or changing it.

Now I was thinking about how we could expand the living room and maybe make an office. There would also be room on the right side of the house where we could expand bedrooms.

I frowned at the thought of my beloved cottage being renovated during the pregnancy.

“What’s wrong?” Colton headed into the kitchen and made us some sandwiches.

“Maybe adding on to the cottage is a good idea but…” Colton handed me a piece. “But the idea of weird men here while I’m trying to nap makes me cranky.”

“We can wait until after the baby is born.” Colton sat on the couch, and I sat down next to him then turned toward him. He smelled like rainstorms and thunder and had snarled at people on my behalf all afternoon. Another frisson of heat raced through me.

He was planning for our future, acting like it was just a given that we would all work things out.

Wetness seeped between my legs. I wanted to feel him inside me again, knotting me until I screamed.

I pressed my knees together and tried to remember what we were talking about. “Isn’t it going to feel too cramped with the baby?”

“Nah, we got the beach house if we get on your nerves.” Colton smirked. “Halos has his place. We can make it work for a while. I wanted you to know you had options.”

He glanced at me, his gaze flickering from the bodice of my sundress down to my stomach.

Liquid desire pooled through me at the idea of options. Yes, many options now that they were here. I swallowed hard, praying he would make a move. He hadn’t tried to so much as kiss me, and neither had Quinn.

Colton brushed his hand over my shoulder, but then pulled back like he’d been burned. “Sorry.” His voice was husky. “Not trying to push. We can take things at your pace.”

“My pace?” I squeaked. Heaven save me from considerate alphas who didn’t want to be pushy. “What if I want you to be pushy, and ravish me?”
