Technically I crashed her shower at the end, and we had amazing shower sex, but I did leave her alone for twenty whole minutes.

Luna gave me an amused look, and we left the doctor’s office. I swung through a bakery to grab a wide variety of Danishes, donuts, and tarts so I would have enough snacks to tempt her, and took Luna back to her cottage.

I didn’t know what the future looked like, but I knew I wasn’t letting Luna go now that I had her.

Chapter15

Luna

Istared at my phone. Raina had stopped by late last night and given me information on Colton, Quinn, and Dante.

After my cousin had left, I’d swallowed hard and told Halos about what they were like. How Colton and Quinn calmed me down, and how Dante was fun and playful.

Halos cuddled closer, pushing a plate with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches over to me. We were on the couch after I’d debated where I wanted to make the stressful phone calls.

I hated making phone calls at the best of times, but this was giving me next-level anxiety. I didn’t know if I should hope for their voicemails or not. I looked at the numbers, and decided I would call Quinn first. I was a chicken, but the adorable beta was the most approachable, and it had almost seemed like he was going to suggest we exchange numbers before Dante had stepped in to remind us all it was a fling.

I touched my stomach. A fling with some unexpected consequences.

Halos rubbed my back. “It’s okay. You don’t have to do this now.”

“I’ll lay awake all night if I don’t.” I looked at Quinn’s number and typed it into my phone.

My stomach cramped, and a flash of clamminess hit my skin. I swallowed hard.

It would be better once I told them. It would be off my shoulders, and I wouldn’t feel frozen. Halos had made a joke about a baby garden, but that was all the baby talk we’d had, apart from the conversation at the doctor’s office.

I wanted to tell my family. I wanted to announce they were all gonna be aunts and uncles.

But I knew I should tell the fathers first. Once I told the not-pack, I would be able to talk to my family and maybe start to feel like this baby was a reality.

I let out a breath, bringing up the first memory of Quinn, his nervousness around me, his information-sharing about obscure books.

It was going to be okay. Halos hugged me from behind, his arms secure around my waist. I leaned back into him, taking in his calming scent of mint and herbs.

I hit send, and the number dialed.

All the air squeezed out of my lungs, and Halos patted my hand. I sucked in a deep breath, feeling like I was floating above my body. I’d decided if I got his voicemail, I would just leave a message saying I had something important to talk to him about.

I let it ring three times. He was busy. Teaching a class maybe, or—

“Hello? Doctor Carter speaking.”

I sucked in a breath. “Quinn.”

“Yes? Hello.”

All thought left my mind. My tongue glued itself to the roof of my mouth. I swallowed again, shaking myself. “Hi,” I croaked.

“Hello.” He sounded puzzled, but not annoyed. That calmed me a little. “Is this one of my students?”

“No. It’s…Luna.” I huffed out a breath.

“Luna!” Quinn almost shouted, and Halos suppressed a chuckle. “Luna. Hi. Hey. How are you?”

“Good.” My throat was so dry. Too dry. Halos handed me a mug of mint tea and I took a swallow.

“I’ve been thinking about you so much,” Quinn said, his voice warm. “I know we weren’t supposed to contact you, but I thought about it so many times, just to see how you were. I was at the bookstore the other day and I found a new one on garden rotation. By Schroder? I don’t know if you’ve heard of it?”
