I smirked at him. It was that, or throw him against the wall and rip his clothes off. He was flushed and kept stealing glances at me. I prayed to every saint there was it was a sign he wanted me too.

"What happened?" Aalina looked between us. "There was a massive power shift."

I sighed. "Yeah. There was an omega..."

Aalina shook her head. "Curse the gods for our folly."

I was stunned. "You know who..."

Aalina grimaced. "We know. We failed her, and now she wants her revenge."

My mouth dried up. "Failed her?"

"Yvenna. A promising omega with spirit magic until things went wrong."

"Wrong?" Nikki frowned. "What did she do, snub the wrong alpha?"

"No, Prince Nikolaidis." Aalina's tone was sharp like a whip crack. "She's wreaking havoc at the temples and trying to get to the Shrines."

"Yes, Priestess," Nikki said in a modified tone.

I gasped. "Is she the one kidnapping omegas?"

Aalina shot me a look. "And how do you know about that?"

"We ran into soldiers on the road," I reminded her. "They were acting suspicious, trying to follow us around. A temple priestess warned Nova and told her to get to the Sanctuary quickly."

"Well. Well." Aalina pressed her lips together in a fine line. "We will talk when we get back. It's not safe here."

A more subdued group followed Priestess Aalina to the carriages where we went back to the Sanctuary.

An omega gone wrong. I puzzled over the thought but didn't want to ask Nova and Nikki about it until we were alone.

Aalina lead us back to the Healer's House. Energy bounced inside me, jarring with each breath.

"Priestess, if you don't let me bake something while we're having this little discussion, I'm going to lose my mind."

Nova grinned at me and gave me a quick hug. "Never a dull moment around you."

I rolled my eyes. Nikki looked at me like I'd grown three heads, but followed us.

Aalina lead us into a large industrial-sized kitchen.

It was empty, copper pots gleaming. I squealed and clapped my hands together. "Finally."

"She sounds like she's about to get laid," Nikki muttered to Nova.

"I mean, that's not a bad idea." She winked at him, and he grumbled, disgusted.

Aalina settled herself at a long wooden table. Nova made us all some tea, and I rummaged through the kitchen to assess my supplies.

Part of my mind was in a belated panic about an omega running around trying to kidnap people. I stuffed the panic inside a small box and concentrated on gathering the ingredients for bread, yeast rolls, and muffins.

Nova watched me with glee. "Can I help? I promised you I'd help."

"Yes." I passed her the flour. There was a faded cookbook in a drawer, and I passed her the instructions. "You're going to start with a simple bread."

I shoved some fruit in front of Nikki. "Make yourself helpful and chop this for me."
