I grunted, gripping him against me. "Please." Desire threatened to drown me.

"Next time, we convince him we can't live without his knot."

Asano thrust inside me, and I cried out. I squeezed my thighs together, adding to the pressure between our bodies. Asano fucked me hard against the door, and I came a minute later, scratching his back and bucking against him.

He kissed my neck, my forehead, and dragged us back to the loveseat. I sighed and curled up on his chest. I wanted more, but I wanted to cuddle first.

"You okay?" He stroked a hand down my back. "You seem stressed."

I petted my hand down his chest. "Spirit magic is hard."

He tisked. "I don't envy you. I have barely enough water magic to be considered anything."

I looked up at him. "Have you ever heard of an omega named Yvenna?"

He froze and looked at me. "Yes. How did you..."

"She sort of attacked me. In the Temple of the Olmas."

"When?" Asano sat up, almost knocking me off him. "We'll double security. We'll—"

"Before I met you. About a week before."

Asano frowned. "No wonder your prince is twitchy."

"So you know her?"

"She was in my class."

It was my turn to sit up. "What? What happened?"

Asano cocked his head. "How much did they tell you?"

"Nothing." I took a deep breath and told him everything. I was getting good at the story, starting with seeing spirits and ending with Yvenna attacking me in the temple.

Asano curled up next to me. "She was sweet. Bubbly. She was taken with an alpha, but they all tried to talk her out of it."

I nuzzled into his chest.

"It didn't end well. I don't know the details, but they didn't bond. He bonded someone else, and a year later he and his omega were both dead."

I flinched.

"After the Sanctuary, she was assigned to a Temple, one of the bigger ones, getting ready to take over a Shrine. I heard she just lost it."

"So she's still after the Shrine," I said. "Only she wants the power from it."

"That makes the most sense. But missing omegas? What would she need with them?"

"Power?" I shrugged. "If I was going to tell the Sanctuary to go screw itself I would want my own army backing me up."

Asano grumbled. "My alpha is on a day trip, but when he comes back he's going to be insufferable."

"He travels a lot."

"He does," Asano sighed. "I told him to. He was ready to give it up, but I told him no. I don't want to spend my life on a boat, but he loves it."

"You two make it work?" I watched his face, toyed with a piece of hair.
