"He said he didn't even want an omega." Asano licked my neck. "But he scented me and I him, and it was a pretty intense courting process."

I blinked. And then blinked again. My brain was too slow to catch up, and then I thought surely I was wrong.

"I'm sorry, lala, I didn't mean to bring the stuff up you don't want to talk about," he said matter of factly, like he didn't just drop a bomb. "Why don't you tell me what you want for breakfast?"

I shook my head. "Sorry, wait. You're an omega?"

He cocked his head, his hair messed up and falling over his shoulders. "Yes? I thought you knew that."

"How would I have known that?" I reached out with my energy, trying to sense his own. "You're so mellow, I thought you were a beta."

He grinned. "I get that a lot. Male omegas have different energy apparently. But no, I'm an omega. That's why I was at the Sanctuary before I was bonded."

I stared at him. It changed nothing, really, but I replayed how the other people had treated him, and it made sense. It wasn't just that he was gorgeous and talented. He was a male omega.

"Is that a problem?" Worry wrinkled his forehead. "I'm sorry, I really thought you knew."

"It's not a problem." I kissed his forehead. "I just assumed you were a beta bonded to an alpha."

"It's just me and my alpha." He took my hand in his and squeezed. "I haven't even considered wanting to bond anyone else until you."

My heart sank, and I wondered how that would work. I liked how his alpha smelled but that didn't mean I was suddenly ready to bond a complete stranger because I liked Asano.

"It's soon, I know," he said quickly. "I'm always rushing things. I just wanted you to know for real I'm not just toying with you. You know, an alpha and omega dangling a bond in front of a beta."

"No, that's not why I..." I shook my head. It was pointless to keep it from him now.

Maybe he would even understand a fraction of what I was feeling.

"I'm an omega too."

He stared at me. And then he smiled and looked at me again. "You're serious?"

"Yes."

"So who’s you're alpha?" He cocked his head. "We both like each other, so we clearly have excellent taste. Maybe I'll like your alpha and you'll like mine..."

I sighed. "I'm not bonded yet."

He stared at me again.

"Asano." I huffed. "This is why I was so upset at the gala. No one knows I'm an omega so they ignore me. They don't ask me to dance or pay me the slightest attention unless I stay late enough that they're drunk and looking for lonely beta action."

Asano sat back on his hip. "Huh."

I hit his arm. "You can't just say "huh" to that."

"First of all, I'm crap at reading energy." He kissed my forehead again. "But I can usually read omegas. When was your last heat?"

I blushed. "It hasn't happened yet."

Asano sat up. He also got hard again. "What?"

I shifted so I was semi reclined. "They missed me." It was impossible to keep the bitterness out of my voice, so I didn't try. "I thought I was losing my mind."

"They missed..." Asano frowned. "I didn't know that was possible."

"Neither did they.” I huffed. “The local priestess thought my magic was too subtle, but it's spirit magic so that doesn't even make sense."
