Keyona gestured at Selene’s music collection scattered on top of her entertainment center. “It’s like I don’t even know who you are.”

“I haven’t felt good lately,” Selena snapped.

“We’re just worried,” Mia said, shooting Keyona a look.

Jesse pulled Selene closer to him on the couch. “You have a safe place where you can molt?”

“You’re looking at it.”

All three dragons had the same incredulous looks on their faces.

“You would probably destroy your apartment,” Jace said.

“But we…” Mia blushed.

Jace winked at her. “That’s because there were three of us, and also Smoke is older.”

Jesse’s head shot up and he looked up at Jace. “So you’re the other…”

Jace went pale and turned away.

Jesse cleared his throat. “I mean, we could go to the center.” He shot a look at Jace. “We’re equipt to deal with dragons—“

Selene was already shaking her head no. “I don’t want a bunch of strange people looking at me.”

Selene closed her eyes, her skin dotted with sweat. Her face was crumpled up in pain. “Mia, can’t you do a spell or something? To catch the ambient magic?”

She has done it before when Selene was performing.

Jesse shook his head. “No, honey, she’d have to be a really fucking powerful witch to contain the sort of magic you’re putting off.”

Jace grinned at her. “Thank goodness we know one, right?”

Mia smiled. It felt foreign and she didn’t question the bubbles of warmth inside her.

Jesse looked surprised. “Really? Because if you’re feeling generous, we need some cloaking magic at the center. Or disruption spells at the very least.”

Mia bit her lip. If they needed that, why didn’t Smoke just ask? “I don’t mind.”

“Good. After you’re done here…” He looked hopeful. “The clans are talking about closing in.”

Selene’s eyes widened. “I told them it was stupid.”

“Where else are they going to go?” Jesse countered. “You need a safe place to molt, and other dragons if you’re hoping to not die in the process.”

“Stupid biology,” Selene grumbled. She leaned against Jesse, her hands running over his chest. Jesse for his part was letting her do what she wanted without trying to take advantage. Which was good, since Mia and Keyone would take turns gutting him if Jesse got fresh.

“I’m going to set up in the other room.” Mia stood up. "I need space between the net and Selene.”

“’kay,” Selene buried her face into Jesse's neck, scenting him.

Mia didn’t think Selene knew she was touching Jesse so much, consider she’d only ever complained about dragons, but…having Jesse around seemed to make her more relaxed.

Jesse’s phone went off, and he frowned. “Sawyer probably wants to know why my energy is off.”

“Tell him to come too,” Selene mumbled. The air around them smelled like ozone. Mia was running out of time to cast the spell.

Mia headed to the backroom, but Selene stopped her. “Wait. I want to be flat.” She shifted her weight. “My bones feel like they’re grinding against each other.”
