Scorching hot sex was another. Beyond that, there was a warmth in her chest that hadn’t been there before. It felt like she had someone with her, all the time. As though Smoke was standing by her, guarding. Jace cracking jokes and making her feel better.

Selena frowned. “Be careful. Dragons like to play games with their lovers.”

“I know.” Mia touched Selena’s arm. “But they’re for real.”

You couldn’t fake Jace’s earnest desire for her. The small looks he stole, the little touches from Smoke. Jace was as suave and put together as any dragon, but she got to see him undone, vulnerable. He wouldn’t have let her so close to a molting if he didn’t trust her.

“This is great and all, but I’m starving.” Keyona pushed her way off the counter. She was a bear shifter, tall and curvy and if her sister didn’t terrify most of the men Key encountered, she could have had dates for weeks. Being the youngest daughter of the man who ran the Order of the Bear shifters didn’t help either.

The door opened again, and Mia smiled. It was Jace and Smoke.

Mia grinned at them. “Good afternoon.”

“Getting better by the minute.” Jace winked at her.

Selena drew up stiffly. She eyed both of Mia’s men like they were vipers waiting to strike.

Jace cocked his head. “Hello, I’m Jace, and this is Smoke.”

“I’m Selena.” Gone was Selena’s usually bubbly warmth.

Mia touched Selena’s back. “It’s okay.”

“Right. Come on Key, we’re going to eat lunch alone.”

Mia frowned. “I’ll come with you.”

Keyona shook her head. “It’s okay Mia. Go be goofy with your men. Give us the dirty details later.” Keyona leered at Jace and then Smoke. “Tell us everything. Size, width, girth, duration.”

Mia tried and failed not to blush. “Key.”

Keyona winked, and Selena gave her men one last assessing look before leaving.

“So you’re free for lunch?” Jace gave her a scorching look.

“Take out at your place?” Mia gave him a mischievous look.

Jace laughed. “I do want you for more than sex, Mia.”

“I’m aware. You also want me because I give amazing blow jobs.”

Jace swallowed hard. Mia smirked, pleased with herself. “That too, but first I wanted to talk with you. I have good news.”

Jace smoothed his hands over his shirt. It was new, and much more expensive than the stuff he usually wore.

A tiny flicker of unease whispered through her. But that was dumb. Jace could go get new clothes if he wanted.

The doorbell rang again, but instead of Charlotte, it was Mother.

Mother paused, looking at Jace and Smoke.

Mia looked between the two of them and then Mother. She was so dead.

Jace ignored her panic and held out a hand. “Good afternoon, Mrs. Caravaggio.”

Mother arched an eyebrow. “I don’t believe we’ve met.”

“No, but your daughter has your beauty,” Jace said smoothly.
