Kai’s eyes began to shine with unshed tears, but the brightest smile curved his lips. “Yeah?”
“I love the way you love me. So fiercely.”
I kissed his palm, and he shut his eyes, unable to stop the tears that fell down his face. I kissed those away before capturing his lips, my heart full to bursting.
We stayed wrapped up in each other, the way it was always supposed to be, and when I felt his breathing begin to even out again, I kissed his temple.
“Sleep this day away. We have forever to wake up to.”

“REFRESH, REFRESH.” I pulled down the page on my phone that would be posting the GED results sometime over the next few hours, but it remained frustratingly blank.
“I don’t know what you’re so worried about,” Gina said, dipping a fry into her chocolate shake and then popping it into her mouth. “You know you passed.”
I held my phone up. “I don’tknowthat.”
“You’ve been studying your ass off for months. Trust me, you passed.”
Blowing out a breath, I set my phone aside and tried not to look at it for at least a minute. Maybe two if I could hold out. I grabbed a fry but bypassed Gina’s preferred dipping sauce. I’d met her during an early GED prep class over the summer, and though she was three years younger than me, she was a great study partner. Ifshehadn’t aced the tests, I’d be shocked.
My phone vibrated on the table, and my heart stopped for a second before I realized it was Lucien calling. That brought an instant smile to my face.
“Hey, beautiful,” he said. “How’d the final test go?”
“I think pretty good. The results aren’t posted yet, but fingers crossed.”
“Gina too?”
I looked at her drawing hearts in the air with her fry and shook my head. “She made me celebrate with a tray of Wendy’s fries, so she’s got it for sure.”
“Ah. Think she’d mind my stealing you away?”
I perked up at that. “Really? I thought you were working tonight.”
“Change of plans. I’m out front.”
Whipping my head around, I saw Lucien leaned back against the black SUV that chauffeured him around town. He grinned and slid the phone into his pants pocket, and I was up out of my seat before the call ended.
“Sorry, Gina, gotta go.” I leaned down to give her a hug and then gestured to the rest of our study group still waiting for their orders. “You gonna be okay with the rest of these guys?”
She waved me off. “Go. Enjoy your sexy man. Celebrate.”
She didn’t have to tell me twice. Lucien was like a magnet drawing me toward him, and I still couldn’t believe he was mine. Dressed all in black, with his silk shirt undone a few buttons to reveal his tanned skin—I’d never seen anyone who took my breath away the way Lucien did. He was just so gorgeous. Sogood.
Mine—all mine.
As I walked toward him, he pushed off the car and met me halfway, hauling me up into his arms for a kiss that left me dizzy.
“Wow,” I said, threading my fingers into the back of his hair before diving in for seconds. “What did I do to deserve all this?”
A low rumble escaped his chest as he nipped at my lips. “I missed you.”
It was a good thing he had a hold of me, because the man made my knees weaker with every passing day.
