I take my seat at the table and the plug nudges deeper into me. I resist moaning, but I don’t know how I’m going to eat anything. I shift in place and feel my pussy getting wet.

I want to go to the bathroom to take care of myself, but I know he’ll know, so I just sit there as he orders for us both.

The menu’s in Italian and I’ve no clue what any of it is, but he seems to know exactly what he’s doing. “He’s not at the safe house anymore,” he says after the waiter’s gone with the menus. “Got wind I was coming to Rome, but my men have kept tabs on his people. Looks like he’s gone to a house near Ostia Antica. Not too far.”

“What happens now?”

“We eat.”

“I meant about Ricardo.”

“Tomorrow I go pay him a visit.”

“You? What about me?”

“Too dangerous. You stay in the hotel.”

“Hold on. What was all that about letting me come with you as long as I obey you?”

“So obey me. You stay in the hotel.”

“Fine, I might as well stay in it now then.” I get to my feet and march out of the restaurant, not easy with the plug shifting left to right during each step. I get outside and realize I’ve no idea how to get back to the hotel from here. Dino appears beside me. “You pissed at me?”

I turn to face him. “You don’t get to decide how muchdanger to put me in. I’m an adult. I can make those choices for myself. I’m coming with you tomorrow.”

He looks at me and his face turns cold, like it was when I first arrived in his basement. Then he nods. “We will talk about it at the hotel.” He waves a passing cab and opens the door for me. “Let’s go.”

Idon’t say anything on the way back to the hotel. She stares in front of her, and it’s clear she’s pissed at me. That’s just fine.

It’s not my job to tend to her every mood. It’s my job to make sure she’s safe. The best way to ensure that is for her to stay in the hotel while I go out and deal with Ricardo.

Once that’s done, I was thinking we should fly straight back to the States. Now, I’m thinking about maybe spending a while here, showing her the sights. Who knows when I might get to come back after this. I’ll have an empire to run.

The cab drops us off and I pay the driver a generous tip to forget he ever saw me. He knows the family code. The money will go in his pocket and no police officer will ever get as much as a hint from him that I was in his cab tonight.

I take Rose in the elevator. Once the doors close, I press up against her in the corner. She gives me a shove, but I don’t move. I look down at her, remind her of my power.

She thinks she can fight me? Can get me to change mymind just by sulking? “Get away from me,” she says, giving me another shove.

“I don’t think you want me to,” I reply, kissing her softly. She melts into my arms, and her anger is forgotten. She knows this is for the best. She knows I want to protect her. Somehow, I’m disappointed. I expected her to fight more.

As the kiss deepens, she shifts in place and then her knee is ramming up between my legs. I manage to catch it before she does too much damage, but it still winds me. She glares at me as I try to keep from yelling at her.

“Told you to keep away from me,” she says, looking like a cornered cat.

I nod. “There’s the fire I fell in love with,” I say with a smile. “Look, I meant what I said. It’s safer for you to stay here.”

“And what if you get shot? Will I be safe then?”

“I’m not going to get shot.”

“You don’t know that. You’re not invincible. What if Ricardo knows you’re coming? What if he’s got guards watching out for you?”
