Stella waves a hand, “The important thing here is the gesture of a gift. I can’t remember the last time Mo did somethingspontaneous let alone something spontaneous for someone else.”

Meeting my eyes, she suddenly drops the smile, “If you break my brother’s heart, I will cut you into pieces and bury them at my family’s estate. My father could easily hire a hitman but I would rather have the pleasure of killing you myself. Understood?”

And to think Maurice is the O’Brien everyone fears.

I give her a weak thumbs up while Lacey watches the interaction with wide eyes. Stella’s sparkling smile soon returns and she leans forward to give my hand a quick squeeze.

“So glad we got that out of the way. Have so much fun tonight!”

She bounces from the room like an evil fairy and I only let out a breath when I hear the dorm door open and close.

“I think that went well.” Lacey bursts out laughing while I stare at her with my jaw on the floor.

“What just happened?”

Wiping her eyes, Lacey walks over and pops the third button of my top open.

“You just got the best first date present ever. But moving forward, just make sure you stay on your sister-in-law’s good side. Even Cecelia wouldn’t stand a chance against that one.”

“Amen.”

I heave out a breath, unable to tear my gaze away from my reflection in the mirror, “At least Maurice helped me figure out tonight’s outfit theme.”

Lacey tilts her head, assessing the new fit.

“Red and ready to shred?”

My face splits into a grin, “Bold and bright.”

Chapter 26

Mo

He wore the shirt.

I watch Nico fix his hair one last time before hopping out of his car. The shirt I picked out for him fits better than I expected, the bright red material cutting close to the edges of his frame but maintaining enough shape to give him room to breathe. The crevice of his tan chest peeks out from the three buttons undone and I have to bite back a grin when I see the gold chain glittering against his neck.

“You clean up well, Montez.” I tilt my head, letting my eyes roam down the fitted black dress pants, “I should have asked you out sooner.”

He snorts, “Babe, we both know I did all the asking.”

Pushing off the side of my apartment building, I close the distance between us with two long strides. Nico’s pupils dilate as he scans me from head to toe, his gaze lingering on the dark grey material of my own dress shirt.

I smirk, “Keep looking at me like that and we won’t make it to the club.”

He licks his lips, “That would be such a shame.”

Putting my hand on his waist, my mouth brushes his cheek as I speak softly in his ear, “Don’t forget who wanted to go on this date. We could have spent the night in bed.”

Nico shivers against me, his fingers teasing the waistband of my pants.

“It was a mistake. Let’s call it quits while we’re ahead.” He leans in for a kiss but I pull away with a raised brow.

“Don’t think you can handle being my date for the night?”

He grips the front of my shirt and pulls me closer, “I can barely handle being on the same lacrosse field with you. Seeing you and not being able to touch you is torture enough without the seduction of Latin music thrown in.”

“It’s a good thing you’re my date then.” His dark eyes flick to mine and I grin, “Tonight you can see and touch.”
