He smirks, tucking his aviators into the collar of his shirt, “I’m always charming. Just not to those who annoy me.”
And here I thought this man couldn’t get any hotter.
Darlene slaps a piece of paper down on the table, all but throwing herself across the counter.
“Here you go.”
Mo grabs the sheet and gives her a warm smile, “Thanks Darlene. Have a lovely evening.”
She beams like she just won the lottery, “You as well.”
My jaw is still on the floor when Mo marches over to the rowdy group of boys and starts calling out the sleeping arrangements.
“Hunter, you’re on the third floor with Millard.”
André pouts, but keeps his mouth shut when Mo shoots him a look.
“André and Preston are on the first floor.”
The two rookies pull a face at each other but take the card Wes holds out to them. Mo continues down the list, his tone leaving no room for argument as each player gets assigned a room and a roommate.
“And lastly, Nico and Wes are on the second floor.” He puts the list down, giving everyone a glacial stare, “I trust everyone is capable of making it to their rooms on their own.”
Echoes ofyes coachgo around and Mo gives everyone a nod.
“Good. In that case, I will see you bright and early on the field tomorrow. Don’t be late.”
The team dissembles and heads for the elevators. Wes falls in step beside me.
“How is he so good at that?”
I give the poor man a pat on the back, “He’s a control freak who was raised to bark orders. You didn’t stand a chance.”
Wes groans and follows me into the elevator, “I used to be organized before I started university. Then it all went to shit.”
I laugh, “First year really kicks you in the ass, hey?”
“First year and all the ones after.”
Chapter 15
Mo
Game day.
The Calgary Dinos have already begun warm-up by the time our team files out of the bus, the McMahon Stadium bustling with excited university students. Nervous energy fills the air as the boys run out onto the field, the familiar buzz of adrenalin running through my body.
I expected to feel a sense of longing watching the players run onto the field, but all I feel is anticipation for the game ahead. The team has worked hard up to this point, so I’m curious to see how we hold up against one of our toughest competitors.
A shout catches my attention, and I turn to see none other than my sister and Cody waving at me from the bleachers. Shaking my head, a smile takes over my face as I walk over to the concrete barrier.
“You stole my car to drive to Wes and Nico’s first game?”
Stella grins, leaning over the railing separating us, “We are here to support you as well, silly. Mom would never have missed your first game as a coach.”
A flood of emotions crashes through me and I have to grind my teeth to stop them from breaching the surface. Carefully arranging my features, I give nothing away as I reach up and flick her nose.
“You get to sit in the back on the way home.”
