He satat the dining room table, his brothers on the other side and Dianna, would be next to him if she’d stop feeding his siblings.
“Come sit.” His order was grumbled but she ignored him.
When she finally returned to the table, in her hand she held three loaded plates with steak, roasted potatoes, and steamed veggies which she placed before each of them. His stomach growled and Macsen groaned. What was she doing? She had her arm in a cast.
“This looks delicious.” Macsen reached for a plate but Jeremy bared his teeth.
“Eat.” Dianna stroked her hand down Jeremy’s face.
He grasped her wrist and halted her from walking away. Tugging her down to sit on his lap, he curved an arm around her waist.
She didn’t argue when he fed her a roasted red potato and he watched her chew then swallow. Looking up, he found his brothers smirking.
“Your team is en route.” Vaughn cut up his steak without looking up from the plate.
The woman in his lap tensed and he smoothed a hand down her belly. “They needed to know you were okay.”
“But if this is a ploy to get them here so they can be taken…” Dianna waved away the follow-up bit he offered of the steak which cut like butter.
“Baby, I need you to eat.”
“And I need my friends safe. Your brothers are here with us so I know they’re fine, but my girls are on their way here and they’re pregnant.”
All three men froze.
“All of them?”
She turned on his lap, eyebrow up. “You didn’t know this?”
“I took a break from SAR.”
Now she narrowed her gaze. “Took a break.”
All he heard was the scraping of utensils and looked around her to see his brothers had cleaned their plates and were pushing back their chairs.
They all shared a look and he knew they were leaving, they didn’t want to be around when the rest of the shifters arrived. His brothers made him look like the life of the party.
“Leaving?” Dianna questioned.
“It’s best that way.” Macsen gave her a smile.
Jeremy frowned when she left his lap and walked over to the twins.
“Thank you.” Her words were sincere and straight forward. “For everything you did. I know, you’re shifters and you’re not going to take me up on it but if you ever need anything, call and I will be on the first plane, train, or automobile needed to get me to wherever you are.”
He started to get up from the chair but she held a hand out to him he paused. Did she not him by her side. Dianna wriggled her fingers and he stepped forward to take it. His heart rate settled as their fingers interlaced.
Macsen nodded at him, his lack of words saying so much. His brothers approved of his woman. A short nod from Vaughn and a hug from Macsen and the twins were gone. She waited after the door closed for about five seconds before she squeezed the hell out of his hand.
“Gonna tell me why you took a break?”
“Not going to ask about who took you?” Anger stirred at the memory.
She snorted. “Please, as protective and possessive as you are, that’s not something I have to concern myself with and thinking about it is only going to piss me off.”
He tugged her close and kissed her temple. “You’re absolutely correct.” Slipping his hands beneath her shirt he cupped her breasts.
Dianna moaned and leaned into his touch as she started panting.
