For a moment there, she thought she’d pushed Jeremy to far. God, the feel of his cock in her hand once more had been nearly enough for her to forget every ache and pain owning her. At least she was willing to ignore them until he gave her an orgasm or ten.
But he’d been adamant about dressing her. And she appreciated him staying focused because while there was a reprieve, she held onto no illusions they were out of the woods.
Jeremy wanted her back on the pile of furs but she needed to be up and moving. It would help and she needed to see how much she could move. And while she still wasn’t fluid like she normally was, the more she did, the better her muscles felt.
She skimmed over the trio once more. Macsen and Vaughn. Twins. Handsome as all get out, it was like watching an ad for sex and nearly being overwhelmed. She liked them and could see their bond even if they—they being Jeremy and Vaughn—pretended to be all cold and standoffish.
Macsen had more lightheartedness in his expression. Not a lot but given the other two were brick walls, it was huge. Both were polite to her and accepting of the way Jeremy called her mate.
Her insides curled and fluttered as she thought of how his gaze burned her when he said that. Exhaling slowly, she resumed her walking. It wouldn’t do to get aroused in a room full of shifters.
As if sensing her need, then again, perhaps he smelled it, Jeremy turned his head slightly to the left and pinned her with his heated gaze. “Dianna?”
Frustration over all of it pushed to the top and she huffed. He cocked an eyebrow and held out his arm. She was moving before it even registered. When it did, she already sat plastered up to his side, wrapped in the heat his body produced.
“Do you remember anything they said?” He brushed a kiss along her temple.
Identical pairs of blue-gray eyes moved to her and she struggled to remain immobile beneath their scrutiny.
“Just they wanted me because of a connection to shifters.” She nibbled on her lower lip. “I’m not positive because by the time they brought me there I was damn near hypothermic after being kept in that shitty place for however long, but I think, almost positive, I heard them mention Lando and Selena.”
“Who mentioned them, baby?”
“The one called Ivan. He was the braggart. Thought and acted like he ran it until the other one arrived.”
All three tensed before they relaxed and most people probably would have missed it. One, she wasn’t most people and two, she knew shifters.
“Why do you say that?” Macsen.
“Because I’m a cop and trained to be observant. Plus, when a large ass man walks in the room and no one but me is willing to meet his gaze, kind of a giveaway.”
Jeremy looked at her. “He touched you.”
She nodded. “While he talked to me. It was like he pushed so I would show him fear.”
“But you didn’t.”
Dianna snorted. “Fuck no. I give him what he wants, he kills me.” A shrug. “Why make it easy for him, plus, since I knew he was a shifter, I worked extra hard to keep it in check. Ain’t easy.” She looked at all three of them. “You’re a bunch of scary motherfuckers.”
“We are.” Vaughn this time. “But you’re family. We’ll die to protect you.”
“And I’d do the same for you, so let’s not because I need to get back and make sure my girls are okay.”
“He’s going to be a problem.” Jeremy pulled her tighter to him. The other two nodded.
“Who ishe?”
“His name is Aleks. A shifter we knew when we were younger. One who needs to be killed.” Jeremy raked a hand through his hair.
Nothing but ice in his tone. No room for forgiveness, no hint of allowing a second chance.
“And he’s the one after Lando and Selena?”
The trio shared a look and Macsen held up his hands. “We’re going to go patrol. The storm is kicked up and I wouldn’t put it past him to try and sneak up now. You two talk…or whatever and we’ll be back later.”
Before she could move or respond, he’d kissed her cheek, Jeremy snarled, and with a head nod from Vaughn they were moving to the door where they shifted and in the place of the two sexy men, stood two snow leopards. A final look and they were out the door.
Jeremy shut it behind them and prowled back over to stand before her.
