He relaxed his hand on her neck. Dragging her nails down the scruff of his face, she leaned in close and kissed him. Pushed her tongue into his mouth and stroked it against his.
“I want a gun.”
Vaughn growled low and Jeremy moved, instantly putting himself between her and the door. Behind him, he felt her get to her feet and thankfully she didn’t step out.
“Here.” Macsen pulled a SIG from the waistband of his pants and tossed it to him, after snatching it from the air he handed it to the woman behind him.
“It’s a good start,” she muttered.
His lips quirked despite the seriousness of the situation. The window crashed in, bringing icy wind and snow. But not a body, only large chunks of ice.
“Get ready.”
Jeremy listened and scented the freezing air. He knew his brother’s had a bead on everything and everyone as well so he didn’t need to update them. But his woman, another story entirely.
“Cabin’s surrounded, at least fifteen men could be more that we’re not hearing yet.”
She shifted and he frowned even as he stole a look to see what she was doing. They were back to back.
Admiration for her grew and he reached between then and patted her on the ass. He got a low chuckle for his action.
“Focus. Now is not the time to play with my ass.”
“Disagree mate. There is always time to play with that fine ass of yours.”
He reached out with his senses, trying to find where the closest people were coming from. They were human, he didn’t pick up on shifters. Of course, knowing Aleks, this was simply the first wave.
The sound hit his ears seconds before the smell found his nose. Fire.
His brothers stiffened and he knew they got the scent as well. Scanning the building, not that there was a lot, he grunted and gestured to the right with his head when Mascen looked at him.
The loose floorboard may be a way out. His brother moved toward it however, before he got there the floor exploded up and amongst the shards of wood he saw a figure. Fangs fully extended, he gathered to toss himself at the intruder when three shots blew by him, lodging into his chest, slamming the man against the far wall.
She moved beside him. “Focus on you, shifter. I can take care of myself. I have no wish to tell Lando you died on my watch.”
Yeah, it was entirely possible he fell in love with her in that moment. He heard the low approvals from both his brothers in that next second.
His brothers had met the men coming in the door and window but then he had to face the men who had just blown a hole in the back wall of the cabin. Pissed, he allowed his cat to take over and he ripped through those men in tactical gear who were breaching the cabin they’d set on fire.
Definitely a suicide mission.
He roared in anger as another slammed into him, taking him down to the frozen ground. Razor sharp claws already out, he sliced up, easily making it through the body armor the man wore. Blood covered his hand as he continued up, disemboweling him as he went.
Another approached from his right and without releasing the one he tore into at the moment, he wrapped a hand around the throat of the idiot coming right at him. The slug tore into his shoulder and he jerked before severing the man’s head from his body.
Aleks.
His scent intermingled in the swirling air and instantly, Jeremy locked onto Dianna. She wasn’t in the middle but she wasn’t shying away from the fight either. He saw a stack of automatic rifles by her feet and approved, her injured hand an issue but she wasn’t letting it keep her on the sidelines. No, she was shooting those trying to kill them, no wasted ammunition, no crazy shots.
Cold. Methodical.
Like him the second he spied Aleks stalking toward her. Shifting instantly, his cat in full rage, he met the rushing bear head on.
Chapter11
Pain had spots before her eyes but Dianna refused to go down. Using the wall to support her, she worked her way through the guns at her feet she’d collected from the dead soldiers. Right now was not time to feel sorry for their loss of life. In her mind, they had picked the wrong side and it was survival of the fittest.
Personally, I need that to be the four of us.
