The anger that he’s been following me to the club fuels my next move. Without the anger, I never would have the balls to do it.I want to see him squirm, I want him to want me so bad it hurts and then I want him to regret ever thinking about me.

Blinking at him with false innocence, I skim my fingers down my bare thighs. When I reach my knees, I trace circles languidly before oh so slowly dragging my nails back up my leg so hard red lines form. Keeping my eyes locked with his, I slowly part my thighs until my pussy is fully exposed to him. The position in which he sits gives him the perfect view. “I prefer to not wear any to the club,” I purr. “They get in the way of what I want.”

He swallows hard as his eyes lock between my spread thighs. “And what’s that?” Jax asks hoarsely.

Trailing my fingers back down my exposed leg, I slide them softly against the skin of my inner thigh. My oversensitive ears pick up on his quickening heartbeat. My skin grows warm knowing I’m affecting him, that I’m getting the reaction I desire. “I want to go to the club, find a man who knowsnothingabout me or my past and I want him to fuck me against a wall until I can’t remember your name.” My fingers delve between my folds and I’m shocked to find that I’m already wet. Jax has always had a hold on me I can’t explain. “I want him to make me forget why my life has fallen apart and I want him to make me forget why I can’t stand to be in the same room as you.” One finger slips inside and I leisurely work it in and out of me. “And while it happens, I want you to watch.”

Glowing violet eyes clash with mine and a low warning growl emits from his chest as his wolf pushes to the surface. This is the first time I’ve been able to sense his animal side, he keeps it locked away tight. I’m not even sure he’s able to shift. He’s always refused to go on pack runs with us. “Remington...” he warns, but I don’t stop. He once lured me in, only to push me into the dirt, and I’m going to do the same now.

“I want you to watch him fuck me against a wall and while you watch, I want you to regret ever stepping foot in my life.” My breath hitches as I circle my fingers against my clit. “As I come on another man’s dick, I want you to hate me as much as I hate you.”As much as I hate myself.

“I’d be careful if I were you. If you push me too far, you won’t like what happens.” Jax snarls, his eyes glowing with rage. “You’re playing with fire, love.”

“I know,” I confess while pulling my finger from my hot core. “I don’t fear your flames, Jax. I’ve already been burned. I’ve got nothing left for you to destroy.” My heart is a pile of ashes, one strong gust of wind will blow what remains away. “So, do your worst,” I challenge with a smirk before licking my finger clean.

Without a word, I stand from the bed and pull my dress back down. Jax remains in place, unmoving, but his eyes burn into my skin as he watches me collect my small purse. Pausing a few feet away from him, I flick my eyes at the bloody carpet. “You’re paying to have this shit cleaned up, I’ll be damned if I have to fix another thing you broke.”

With that, I leave him to sit and think about what just happened. Or at least that was the plan.

The second my hand wraps around the metal handle to leave, I’m abruptly whirled around, my back slamming into the door so hard I’m surprised the wood doesn’t splinter. His arms rest on either side of my head, caging me in. His breath comes in angry pants, his chest heaving harshly. “Where the fuck do you think you’re going?”

Tilting my chin up toward his face, I seethe, “I believe I just told you I had plans.”

There’s a wild, almost unhinged look in his purple eyes. Even this angry, Jax still looks like someone who walked off a runway in Milan. The perfect sharp angles of his perfectly symmetrical face make me want to punch him in the nose. Strands of his jet-black hair fall forward on his forehead as he dips his head closer to mine. He’s so close to me, we share the air we breathe. “You’re just going to leave after that little show of yours?”

I shove at his chest, but he doesn’t move. “It’s not fun when someone plays with your emotions and then leaves, is it?” I shout angrily in his face, giving no shits that the other guests of the hotel could hear me. “If you feel even aquarterof how I felt when you did it to me, then I did my job right.” My wolf whimpers at the memory. She hasn’t been the same since that night. He damaged her just like he did me.

His face turns cold, his lips twisting into a sneer. “You obviously didn’t feel that bad since you wasted no time jumping into bed with Gage!”

Hearing Gage’s name on his tongue floods me with an unbearable amount of shame. As the blood in my veins runs cold, my chest grows painfully tight. So tight I feel like I can’t breathe. I need the hell out of here, but Jax’s arms box me in. A mixture of fury and desperation powers me as I slam my fist into his gut so hard I hear the sound of ribs breaking. He finally stumbles away from me, clutching his side.

“You made your choice that night, and Gage was your consequence because of it.”He ultimately became mine as well. “That’s the shitty part of life, Jax. Sometimes we make the wrong choices and we’re punished for it. So, grit your teeth and take your punishment like a fucking man.”

Understanding crosses his face. “Is that what you’re doing?Punishingyourself?” he questions, tilting his head to the side.

My air catches in my throat at his question. For the briefest second, I feel my face fall before I can stop it. Even though it was fast, I know Jax saw my slipup. Steeling myself, I lift my chin and boldly meet his eyes. “Our actions have consequences,” I manage to bite out. “I’m learning to live with mine. I suggest you do the same and leave me the hell alone.” This time when I leave, he lets me.

If I’m going to bear the weight of my actions, I can’t do it with Jax around. Seeing him alive and breathing only reminds me of what I did and what it cost me.

Isabeau throws me the same bag of peas that Remi had just used yesterday on her ribs. Wordlessly, I press them to my pounding skull. The bloody gash may have healed, but the concussion-induced headache has yet to go away. If I’m being honest, I’m not convinced it’s not a Remington Weylyn induced headache.

My encounter with her tonight left my body aching in all kinds of places. My cock had hardened painfully at her little display on the bed. Even as I contemplated killing her where she stood because of it, my body craved her. My wolf was deranged with the need to touch her.Which is never going to fucking happen.

With an unsettled wolf and semihard dick, I left the hotel and went straight to Isabeau’s house. At this ungodly hour, I knew she’d be awake. The vampire requires very little sleep.

Sitting in the office chair, I spin in circles while holding the ice pack to my head.

“So Kaius is burning down his own businesses and resurrecting random dead people to watch over them?” she repeats slowly, like she can’t believe it herself.

“It’s a good plan,” I reluctantly admit. “He’s connected to each of the people he brings back, he’ll know the second one of them dies.”Again.

“They’re like his own version of motion detectors,” she surmises.

“Exactly, he’ll be able to tell when we’re getting too close to wherever he’s hiding out and he’ll move on.” If he wasn’t the enemy, I may applaud his plan for its ingenuity.

“How many of these places have you gone to with no backup?”

Continuing my spinning, I shrug. “Not sure. Five or six? They’ve all been dead ends though. This is the first place that was burned down and had a guard dog.” I went to all the places I was brought to as a child, but they were all cleared out. Not a single piece of scrap paper remained in the buildings. “If they’re resorting to burning shit down, it means they know they’re running out of time. They know we’re coming for them and they don’t have the time to clean out each of the buildings anymore.”
