“Shit,” she cursed, pushing against my chest. “I’m so sorry… I didn’t… What just happened?”

I shook my head. “I don’t know. But please don’t apologize.”

Her frown intensified, and she attempted to pull away but winced when she realized just how trapped she was on my knot.

As an omega, she knew she wouldn’t be able to go anywhere after being knotted, but panic was a powerful thing that made idiots of us all.

“This is bad. This is very bad,” she muttered to herself.

“It is what it is, Sunny. There's no going back now,” I said, gently rubbing my hands up and down her forearms.

“Why aren't you angry?” she asked, narrowing her eyes. She glanced around the room then, noticing her state of nakedness as she lifted her hands to cover her breasts.

Not that it would do much for her modesty at this point, considering I was knot deep in her.

Still, I decided to be a gentleman.

Leaning over, I grabbed my T-shirt from where we had flung it. “Here,” I said softly, lifting it. She gratefully let me maneuver the shirt over her head.

It was long enough that it covered her pretty well, but there was no denying how, every time we shifted, I could feel her walls clamping down on me again.

“This is a mistake. We need to undo it.”

Her panic was palpable. I could feel it in my chest, almost like the grip of anxiety was crushing me instead of her.

It was potent. Sure, I got a glimpse of my pack mates’ emotions every now and again, but nothing like this. I knew that, theoretically, I would feel my omega's emotions more than my pack mates’ because our connection was stronger, but I hadn't quite expected it to be so brutal.

Keeping it together while she freaked out was quite the task.

I looked down at her, raising a brow. “Like I said, there’s no going back here.”

“B-but…” Her eyes filled with tears as she started pulling in ragged breaths.

Shit.

Why was she upset? I knew it was a shock and a lot had changed in a very short amount of time, but was she unhappy withwhoshe’d bonded with? Sunny was a catch, even if she didn’t see it. Maybe she wanted more from her future partner, and now she was stuck with me?

As much as that thought stung, there wasn't anything we could do about it. All I could do for now was calm her down and then prove to her every day for the rest of our lives that I was a good choice.

“Deep breaths,” I instructed, keeping my voice steady. I also used a little bit of my alpha voice to help drive the point home. Usually, I would never dream of using an alpha bark, or even a hint of it, but Sunny’s face was starting to turn red in panic, and I was worried that if she didn’t relax soon, she was going to pass out.

Explaining to my pack mates why there was an omega passed out on my knot, who had clearly been crying, probably wasn't going to be the easiest of tasks—and I desperately wanted to avoid that.

Though I would probably deserve the punch Rune would give me.

Chapter 16

Blaze

We were driving back on the fire truck when it hit us.

There was no mistaking what had happened as Sunny came crashing into our bond.

“Holy fuck!” I whispered, gazing wide-eyed at Rune, who looked like he was ready to keel over.

“You okay, Blaze?” Gil asked.

I nodded. There was no way I could admit to what I was feeling in that moment. Rune and I could feel that Sunny and Walker were bonded now, but we had no idea the circumstances, and we didn't want to declare it to our teammates until we knew more.
