“Juice!” Luka declared sleepily, making us both smile.

“Why on earth are you drinking that?” I asked through giggles.

“Because I’m supposed to be healthy as a firefighter. And because I'm the captain, I have to set a good example.” He said the last part in an almost whining voice.

“Well, now I just feel mean getting a milkshake when you can't have one.”

“Not at all. You should get a milkshake. Let me live vicariously through you. Really, you’d do me a favor by going and getting one.”

“Walker…”

“Do it, Sunny. This is a disagreement I refuse to let you win.”

With a smile and a huff, I took the card from his outstretched hand. “Thank you. I can go after Luka’s nap.”

“Why don’t you go now? Put him down and take the monitor with you, but I can keep an eye on him here. If he wakes up, Ican look after him for the three minutes it will take for you to get back here.”

I bit my lip. He was convincing me to go and get myself a sweet treat and was offering to look after my child in the interim?

Was it possible for him to get any more perfect?

Well, maybe if he was naked.

That was a train of thought I needed to quickly stop.

No panting over the hot firefighters.

I shook my head. “You’re being too nice.”

Walker smiled. “Nope, I’m just the boss and used to getting what I want,” he said, gently pushing me back toward the room so I could put Luka down to nap.

“Don’t you worry, Luka, when you’re old enough, you can haveallthe milkshakes, but for now, it’s Mama’s treat.” Walker laughed lightly.

The milkshake place was just as close as Walker had said, and I was there and back within ten minutes. It was kind of nice to get out of the fire station and breathe a bit of fresh air.

I had no idea when I last went out on my own. I usually had Luka with me, and more recently, one of the firefighters. It was nice in a way, but also fairly lonely.

Though, I was eager to get back to Luka. I had installed the baby monitor app on my new phone, and I could see that he was fast asleep.

“Still doing paperwork?” I asked, observing Walker sitting at his desk, reading through files with a frown as I returned.

He glanced up at me, his frown melting away and a smile taking over his features. “It’s never ending.”

“The struggle of being the boss.”

Walker pouted playfully before noticing the milkshake in my hands. “That thing is gigantic.”

“I know!” I cried. “This is apparently a small?” I laughed, holding the drink aloft. It was the size of my freaking head.

“There is no way that’s a small! What flavor is it?” he asked.

“Cookies and cream.” I grinned.

Walker groaned, throwing his head back. The veins of his neck bulged with the movement.

I wanted to bite them.

“Want some?” I asked, taking a few steps toward him and holding out the drink, which he eyed hungrily.
