Actually, I’m definitely overreacting.

Because there’s no way Emmett and Kade’s father could be sitting at the end of the bar.

Right?

CHAPTER FIFTY-EIGHT

KADE

Icheck my phone again and find no new notifications.

Why hasn’t she replied to me?

She’s working, you psycho.I reprimand myself, but it doesn’t help to settle the unease in my chest.

Emmett called me as soon as he left the church to tell me that dear old Dad is in town and knows about Waverly, which puts me in an awkward position. He still thinks I’m loyal to him, and from what my brother was saying, he doesn’t know I’m involved with our girl, which could be as good as it is bad.

Sighing, I stalk down the alley toward my target.

I wasn’t lying to Waverly this morning when I told her I was meant to be doing surveillance. But then everything went to shit.

William Danvers is a businessman who got a little too cocky and got involved with some people he shouldn’t have, putting a target on his head. He thought he could have his pie and eat it too when he sold a new program to the highest bidder, and now his partners want him to pay for it. It’s a cutthroat world within the tech industry, and I can’t believe William thought he would get away with it.

What I didn’t realize was that my fact-finding mission would quickly morph into a kill because tonight is the handover. He’splanning to give the program to whoever bought it, something I haven’t been able to work out yet, and that means he has to die tonight. Preferably before he hands over the thumb drive.

It’s quiet for a Sunday night. Usually, people try to extend the weekend for as long as possible, but tonight it’s still. Too still for my liking.

William strolls into a parking structure, and I can’t help but roll my eyes at how cliché he is. Will these assholes ever realize the first place they’ll get caught is anywhere a movie has ever depicted as a meeting point?

But it works for me. Plenty of cars to use as cover to remain out of sight until it’s time to take these assholes out.

I check the handgun at my back again, a habit that I’ll likely never break myself out of. It’s securely in place, allowing me to slink into the shadows with confidence.

William keeps moving up the structure, choosing not to take the stairs, which at least tells me he’s not a complete moron. A stairwell is way too tight, at least out here, he can duck behind a car and hide if he needs to.

Not a complete idiot, but his past decisions are still going to see him killed tonight.

Ducking behind a black SUV, I pull my phone out and check Waverly’s tracker one more time to make sure she’s still at the club. I don’t like not having eyes on her, but I need to accept that I can’t be there all day every day watching her every move.

I mean, I probably could, but she’d probably kill me for being an overbearing asshole, and I’d rather not go down that road.

Taking a quick look around me, I move out from my hiding spot and make my way the way William just went. This motherfucker better not be heading for the roof, because even though it’s his best bet not to take the stairs, it would have saved a whole lot of skulking around on my part.

The faint hum of voices touches my ears, and I quietly jog further up until I lock eyes on who William is meeting, and my stomach bottoms out.

Fuck.

Salvatore Draper stands with three guards at his back, his shoulders relaxed and his face set in a firm line that most people wouldn’t dare fuck with.

But I’m not most people.

Moving closer, I take stock of our surroundings.

There aren’t as many cars up this far, but there’s still plenty of cover for me to get closer. There are three SUVs that look like they could belong to Salvatore, especially because they’re parked haphazardly and one of the back doors is propped open.

The guards standing behind him won’t be the only men he’s brought to this little meeting. Men like him like to show off their power, and even though he’s only meeting one guy, he’d still want him to know who he’s fucking with.

I crouch behind a late-model sedan when I’m within earshot and listen to what they’re saying.
