She stills against me. “What?”
“Marry me,” I repeat, not giving a shit that this isn’t the way I had originally planned to do it. I planned on proposing to her while we are in Brazil next month, but I’m tired of waiting. I’ve waited long enough. I run my finger over the ring she wears on her middle finger now. It’s the ring that was her first engagement ring, but it wasn’t real. “I want to replace this with a real one and for you to wear it on the proper finger.”
She stares at me for a moment, her eyes wide. “You’re serious.”
“Yes, Hadley. I wanted to do it differently than this, but fuck it.”
A slow smile pulls across her lips, her eyes filling with tears. “Yes, Rowan. Yes, I’ll marry you.” She lets out a soft laugh as she lifts her hands to cup the sides of my face. “I will say, you’re slightly ridiculous.” She smiles at me, shaking her head. “I don’t even have pants on and your cum is currently running down my thighs.”
“Just how I like you,” I murmur, a smirk lifting mylips before I capture her mouth once more. Our lips melt together, the strands of our souls intertwining, and I’m home.
There was a point in my life where Hadley Reed felt like an unattainable dream, like she was a mirage that would never be mine.
But now I have her.
And I swear I’ll never let her go...

Prologue

SIX YEARS AGO
A soft body collides into the back of mine and liquid splashes, soaking the material of the back of my t-shirt. It's cold against my skin and my spine straightens, my body tensing from the sensation. Music bumps from the speakers throughout the club, the strobe lights above flashing in tandem to the beat, yet somehow, over all the commotion, I can hear the sound of her velvety voice when she speaks.
"Oh, fuck." She lets out a breath, her tone flustered and annoyed. "I'm so sorry."
My movements are slow as I spin around to look at the stranger and I'm delighted in what I find. My 6'4" frame towers over hers and I have to tip my chin to look at her, even with her feet shoved into a pair of white heels. Her cheeks are tinted pink, her high cheekbones sparkling beneath the strobe lights overhead. Her long dark hair is pulled back in a sleek high ponytail, without a single hair out of place. Her long lashes flutter, revealing the most beautiful hues of gold and green shimmering in her irises.
The best part of all?
The annoyance written in her expression. The way her dainty nose is scrunched, her dark eyebrows tugging together. She looks like someone spilled their drink onher. The black dress she's wearing hugs her curves in all the right places, stopping just along the middles of her tanned thighs.
Amusement washes over me and I cock my head to the side as she stares up at me. "Did you spill your drink on me?"
"Yes. Some asshole bumped into me and knocked me into you." She closes her eyes, her nostrils spreading as her chest rises from the deep breath she sucks in. She takes a second, blows it out and looks back at me once more. "This place is packed tonight, there’s barely any room to move." She shakes her head, like she's trying to shake away her irritation. "Can I buy you an apology drink or something?"
"There’s no apology needed,” I tell her, a smile lifting my lips. “But I’ll buy you one instead.”
Her red lips spread, revealing her bright white teeth as she ducks her head and lets out a soft laugh. “ I appreciate the offer, but I don’t really drink except for the occasional glass of wine.” She lifts her glass, shrugging as a sheepish look dances across her expression. “This is just water.”
“Aren’t you refreshing?” I let out a low chuckle, resisting the urge to trail my fingers across her exposedcollarbones. I didn’t come here with the plan of taking someone home, but I’m not opposed to entertaining that idea with her. “What brings you out to a place like this if you aren’t drinking?”
She pulls her bottom lip between her teeth, dragging the top ones of her flesh before releasing it. “I came here to dance and forget about my ex’s engagement announcement.” Her eyes scan my face. “What about you? Are you just here to drink?”
There’s my confirmation that she’s single.
“Maybe I came here to dance too.”
Her face cracks and her laughter teases my eardrums. “I highly doubt that.”
“Want to find out?”
