All week, he’d been fantasizing about seeing the vampire again.
He swallowed heavily as he stared at the door. When he’d first said yes to Mikael coming over, all he’d thought about was not being alone while he worried about Luna, but now… his body reminded him of all the other things he wanted from the vampire.
Mikael’s kisses. Mikael’s touch.
His cock.
A knock sounded, and Collin startled.
There he was.
Swallowing again, Collin opened the door, his stomach churning with excitement.
Mikael stood on the other side, and Collin’s heart skipped a beat as the vampire’s gaze met his. There was warmth in his brown eyes, more than Collin had ever thought a vampire’s gaze could hold. And when Mikael’s lips curled into a tentative smile, Collin forgot all the reasons he should be nervous around this man.
He forgot everything but the butterflies in his stomach and the urge to wrap his arms around Mikael’s waist and pull him close.
“Hey,” Mikael said quietly.
“Come in,” Collin stepped aside so that Mikael could pass.
He couldn’t stop himself from taking a deep breath as Mikael did, inhaling the man’s scent and letting it wash over him.
Mikael closed the door behind himself and then turned to face Collin again. “How are you doing?” he asked, his tone genuinely concerned.
Collin sighed, shoulders slumping. “Worried.”
“Yeah, of course you are,” Mikael murmured. He reached for Collin’s hand and, after a moment of hesitation, laced their fingers together. His skin was cool, and Collin found that sensation strangely soothing. “Did the surgery go okay?”
“They think so,” Collin said quietly. “But you never know with these things, right? She’s under heavy sedation right now and they said it would be better for her to spend the night.”
Mikael’s fingers tightened around his.
“I just wish I could be there,” Collin said. “What if she wakes up and she’s scared?”
“I’m sure she’s well looked after.”
“Yeah, I hope so.” Collin closed his eyes, fighting the urge to bury his face against Mikael’s chest and lose himself in his embrace. He didn’t want to make the vampire uncomfortable by pushing himself on him, but… he was so damn stressed, and he needed a break, and it was so tempting…
Mikael pulled him closer, wrapping an arm around him, and Collin didn’t fight it, leaning against him and breathing deeply. Mikael smelled like the night, like crisp air and autumn leaves, and Collin didn’t think he’d ever smelled anything more appealing. He pressed his nose to the spot where Mikael’s shirt opened, just above his collarbone, and he felt the vampire’s pulse under his skin, beating strong and slow.
He wanted to feel that pulse speed up. He wanted to feel Mikael’s desire for him.
Collin’s breath caught and he couldn’t help himself. He pressed his lips against the curve of Mikael’s neck and felt the vampire stiffen.
“Collin…” Mikael whispered.
Collin drew back, his gaze locking with Mikael’s. The vampire’s eyes were darker now, full of desire, but also full of concern. His fingers dug into Collin’s waist, not so that he couldpull Collin closer, but more so that he could keep his hands from doing other things. His fangs had slid out from under his gums, and Collin’s blood sang with the memory of those teeth inside him, piercing him, drinking from him.
He wanted that again.
He wanted it more than anything.
But not if things escalated again.
He forced himself to take a step back, knowing how hard Mikael had to be fighting his instincts right now and not wanting to make things even harder for him. To his surprise, though, Mikael’s grip on him tightened, keeping him in place.
Collin shot the vampire a questioning look.
