Collin: They’re pretty much making me.

Mikael: You should get some rest. You’ve spent all day at that clinic.

Mikael checked the time on his phone. It was just past sunset and the club would be filling soon. Already, Cyril was behind the bar, readying for opening hour. God, he’d been so busy with his phone he hadn’t even noticed the other vampire. Mikael gave him a short wave now and got a curt nod in response.

His phone buzzed again.

Collin: I know. You’re right. I’m just worried.

Mikael: Your bunny will be fine. Go home. I’ll meet you there.

Collin: Really?

Mikael: If you don’t want me to, I won’t.

Collin: No, come over. I’d love to see you.

Mikael smiled down at his phone as his heart squeezed almost painfully in his chest. Collin’s response had arrived instantly, which meant that he wanted to be with Mikael as badly as Mikael wanted to be with him–in spite of the obvious risk. He hadn’t said anything about that. He trusted Mikael more than any mortal should trust a vampire, and Mikael would be damned if he would ever betray that trust.

He was going to control himself tonight. Collin deserved his very best, and Mikael was going to give it to him.

“Going out?” Cyril asked, cocking an eyebrow in Mikael’s direction.

“I am.” Mikael dropped his phone into his pocket. “If Mordyn comes looking for me you can tell him I went to get the good blood.”

Cyril blinked. “What good blood?”

Mikael waved him off. “Mordyn will know.” With that, he strode toward the door.

There was a breeze in the air when he stepped outside, and he filled his lungs with it, feeling the nervous energy inside of him dissipate with every step he took toward Collin’s place. He’d been unsure what to do while he was talking to his sire, but the moment he received Collin’s text, the moment he felt that the other man needed him around, all his uncertainty disappeared. He knew exactly what he was going to do.

Chapter Ten

Collin paced the floor, unable to sit still, let alone relax.

He’d stayed at the vet’s office for as long as they’d allowed him, but now he was home and there was nothing for him to do except wait.

He knew logically that Luna was going to be okay, that there was no reason to worry, and yet he couldn’t calm his nerves. He had a lingering feeling of anxiety in his chest, and he didn’t think it was going away anytime soon.

And his anxiety wasn’t solely about Luna either.

Mikael was coming here again.

A shiver ran up Collin’s spine. He’d wanted Mikael to visit so badly earlier, but now that he was actually going to be here…

How was he going to resist the vampire?

Collin’s body flushed with heat, remembering Mikael’s lips on his neck, the sharp sting of his fangs, and the fire in his veins as Mikael sucked his blood.

He squeezed his eyes shut.

And then his doorbell rang, and he knew it was Mikael outside, waiting to be let in.

Collin’s heartbeat sped up as he stepped toward the door, and he had to remind himself to take a deep, steadying breathbefore he pushed the button on the intercom that opened the door downstairs.

Mikael would be here any second.

He swallowed heavily as he stared at the door, waiting.
