“Looks better on you,” he said, trying for casual, but feeling anything but.

Carrie looked down at her body and back up at him. “Um, thanks,” she squeaked. “You want some ice cream?” she asked holding the container out to him.

“Sure, if you want to share,” he teased. He sat down at the kitchen table, and she sat down next to him in the chair that he pulled out for her.

“I don’t mind sharing,” she said, handing him her spoon. They sat in silence, eating ice cream, passing the spoon back and forth and he had to admit, having her there with him felt right.

“Evan,” she breathed.

“Yes, Carrie.” He felt like he was holding his damn breath, hoping for what she might say to him next. But Evan knew better than to get his hopes up.

“We’re done all of the ice cream,” she said. He was still hungry, but not for food. Evan was done waiting for Carrie to admit that she had feelings for him. He was about to do something that he had never really done before—break the rules, and he was sure that it wouldn’t end well for either of them.

He pulled her from her chair to stand with him, and when he sealed his lips over hers, he was sure that she would probably end up slapping him—but she didn’t. Instead, Carrie gasped intohis mouth, wrapping her arms around his neck, and tugging him closer. They stayed like that for what felt like an eternity. Evan took his time kissing her and God, she was perfect. He wanted to do so much more with her, but he needed to make sure that Carrie was on board with his plans. He wanted to break all of the damn rules with her, and he wasn’t about to do so without her permission.

He broke their kiss and Carrie moaned out her protest, causing him to laugh. “I need to know that you’re okay with this, Carrie,” he whispered into her ear.

“I’m more than okay with it, Evan,” she assured. “And for the record, I have feelings for you too.”

“You don’t have to say that,” he insisted.

“But I do,” she disagreed. “I should have told you that earlier, at the doctor’s office, but you took me by surprise. You seem to do that a lot,” she said, “take me by surprise, that is.”

“I’m glad that I can keep you on your toes, but we have to remember that I’m still your boss when this is all over,” he said.

“Is this going to end?” she asked. “Is this just a one-night thing then, Evan?” He wasn’t really sure what his answer should be. He wanted to tell her that there was no way that he’d be able to give her up after just one night, but she might not be looking for a long-term commitment right now. She was just getting out of a bad relationship, and she was pregnant.

“It can be whatever you want it to be, Carrie,” he promised. There, that way the ball would be in her court, and he wouldn’t have to worry that he was overstepping.

“I don’t really do one-night stands, Evan,” she said. “But I understand if you don’t want to get involved in more with me. I am your assistant and I’m pregnant with another man’s baby.” None of that mattered to him.

“If it’s your job you’re worried about, it’s safe—no matter what, Carrie,” Evan promised.

“It’s not really my job that I’m worried about, but my heart. I tend to jump into things quickly and end up getting hurt,” she admitted.

“I don’t plan on hurting you, Carrie,” he assured. He didn’t either. If he had his way, he’d make her his and that would be the end of the discussion.

“Well, then, I’d like one night with you, Evan,” she whispered. He could feel the disappointment until she held up her finger. “And I’d like to see where this thing leads us. I promise that I won’t hurt you either, Evan,” she assured. That was all the green light that he needed from her. Evan lifted her into his arms, tossing the empty container of ice cream into the trash on their way out of the kitchen.

“What are you doing?” she asked. “Put me down, Evan.”

“I’m taking you to my bedroom before you have a chance to change your mind, honey,” he said.

“I can assure you that I won’t be changing my mind, Evan,” she insisted. Carrie wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him in for a kiss, making walking up the stairs to his room nearly impossible. Instead, Evan made a beeline for his family room and discarded her onto the couch.

“I thought that you were taking me to your room,” she said.

“Change of plans,” he growled. “I can’t wait that long.” She sat up on the sofa and ran her hands up his thighs. His cock was making his sweatpants tent and she playfully ran her hands over his erection. When Carrie dipped her hands into his sweats to run them over his cock, he nearly came right then and there.

“You’re big,” she breathed. “I want to taste you, Evan.” He wanted to protest. To tell her that was a really bad idea because he was already on edge, but she didn’t give him time to do any of that. She wrapped her sexy little lips around the head of his cock and sucked him into her warm mouth, and all Evan could do was moan and take everything she was giving him. He let her haveher fun, but when he just couldn’t take it anymore, he pulled free from her mouth, loving her little moans of protest.

“You didn’t let me finish,” she accused.

“If I let you finish, I wouldn’t be able to do this,” he said, pulling her to the side of the sofa. He tugged her t-shirt up over her head and moaned when he realized that she wasn’t wearing anything underneath. Carrie sat on the sofa, completely bare, staring up at him as if waiting for whatever he had planned next for her.

Evan pulled her up from the sofa and lifted her into his arms, loving the way that she straddled his erection as if she knew exactly what he was about to do. He walked across the room with her, pushing her up against the wall, and sinking into her body. He filled her completely and she cried out his name.

“Are you okay?” he whispered.
