“It’s a requirement for those who havedirect patient contactto receive the flu shot. Check the office guidelines before informing others of what you believe the policy might be.”

“Respectfully, Dr. York, you’re not my boss.”

The cluster of nurses glanced back and forth between Aaron and Leeann.

“No, I’m not. However, it would be a shame for either of you to be dismissed over something as simple as a misunderstanding,” he mentioned with a hint of authority.

“I’m not going anywhere.” Leeann shot a nasty look at me. “Becca, please get seven and twelve for me.” She headed down the hallway and Becca followed without a word.

“Are the rest of you on break?” Aaron glanced at his watch. “There’s a waiting area full of people and only half the exam rooms are occupied.”

The remaining nurses broke up their group, rushing off to get back to their tasks. I righted the seat that had tipped on its wheels from the harried leap to my feet.

“If anyone speaks to you in an unprofessional manner, Zoelle, I want you to tell me immediately.”

“You’re not my boss either,” I reminded him.

Aaron leaned into me, his mouth nearly touching the shell of my ear. “Oh, yes, I am.”

Something about his tone aroused the hell out of me.

Damn it.

It should be illegal to turn me on at work.

“S-sorry, Sir.” One of his titles fell out of my lips as if we were alone.

He straightened up, increasing the distance slightly. “The behavior Leeann demonstrated will not be tolerated. Just because an HR rep isn’t always on site doesn’t mean it’s a free for all. You can call or email one of them directly.”

“I’ll keep that in mind, Dr. York. Thank you.” I pretended we were having a normal conversation but I wanted him to scoop me up, bend me over his desk, and fuck me.

“What time are you working until?”

“Until I’m done.” I tilted my head toward him and saw him texting on his cell phone. “I apologize for my brevity, but I’m still catching up. I was off work for a few days, and it put me behind.”

“Check your phone,” he muttered. “I’ve got to get back to my patients.”

“Understood.” I concentrated on the top three issues from my to-do list as Aaron walked away, then pulled out my phone.

See me in my office after work.

My stomach clenched. He wouldn’t risk punishing me in his office, and I hadn’t done anything wrong.

Do you want to have dessert at my house?

Don’t distract me.

Yes, Daddy. I’ll stop in before I leave.

Good girl.

I dove back into my emails, but my brain was filled with all of the things Aaron could do to me in the privacy of his office.

Requests from my boss inundated my inbox and kept me stuck at my desk. I glanced at the computer monitor. It was already six-thirty at night! Where had the afternoon gone?

I gathered up my supplies, throwing everything in my laptop bag then shutting down my computer. I routinely worked overtime, but since I was used to working at home at grabbing food in between emails, I had let a lot of my needs slip. I made a mental note to create breaks for myself.
