Shit. This was going to turn south quickly. I glanced at Liam.

“You’re over the legal limit even if it hasn’t hit you yet. You know better than anyone what driving under the influence takes to get out of in court.” He put the alcohol away, and then returned to the table. “It’s not open for discussion. If something happens to you, not only will I feel guilty, but I’ll be held responsible for providing the alcohol.”

“You haven’t been in my life for a long time, Liam.”

“And whose fault was that?” Liam questioned but his sister glared back at him.

“Oh, that’s not the point, brother. You can’t just tell me what to do!”

“If I let you leave with this much alcohol in your system and you get pulled over or worse, so help me, Raegan Colleen—”

“Hey, let’s go watch a movie!” I interrupted Liam with an apologetic grimace, grabbed Raegan’s hand and practically dragged her into the living room. It broke the tension somewhat, and she sat down on the couch reluctantly. She crossed her arms over her chest, but she didn’t fight.

Liam followed us and sat down in the huge armchair. He cocked an eyebrow at me, but I scrolled through the listings on the television guide and started playing a romantic comedy. I’d hear about it later, for stepping on his toes, but the immediate situation was resolved. Score one for Lacey. At least I was ahead for the first time in months until his sister left the house.
