“He came in this morning after he called and woke me up. I was worried that he was married at first, but he cleared that up really quick, then told me he wants to see where things go,” I say, nonchalantly as if this isn’t a big deal at all.
“You’re joking.”
“Nope. I went to find him yesterday, started in on a complete bitch fest and he grabbed me mid-sentence and fucked me, then left. Then this morning he said that and now I haven’t heard from him because he’s working. Or doing club shit, but I’m thinking working.”
“You lucky bitch,” Mindy grins.
“Yeah, well, you know. My luck hasn’t always been like this. Oh! A property management company bought my house, so I met with the agent handling my account today.”
“What’d she say?”
“That I can stay…because someone paid my late rent from the last two months and paid next month’s rent, too.”
“Really? Did they tell you who?” Mindy asks.
“Negative. She said it was company policy that she couldn’t discuss it with me. Funny, huh. They can’t tell me who paidmyrent.”
Mindy giggles. “That is kind of funny, actually.”
“Did you do it?”
“No, love. I didn’t. I wish I could have, but it wasn’t me.”
“Damn. I thought it was you. It could have been my mom, but I haven’t talked to her, and she doesn’t even know that the house got bought out.”
“I don’t know love.”
I sigh. I will have to call my mom soon. No one else is aware of my financial struggles.
“I’m nervous, Min,” I admit. I move my spoon around aimlessly in my bowl and try to process everything going on in my life in the last two weeks.
“I think you worry too much. So, what if someone paid your rent? Be grateful and call it Sunday. One less thing for you to worry about. As far as Cass goes, enjoy it while it lasts and have fun. Stop being so damn serious all the time,” Mindy says.
“You’re right. I need to stop overthinking and enjoy my life. What would I do without you?”
“Let’s not ever find out, because I don’t know what I would do without you.”
“This is why I love you.”
We finish eating and wash our bowls in the sink in the back. I’m so used to spending all my time at the bar that even on my off days, I’m here. The thought makes me giggle and I shake my head at myself.
I walk back out front and sit at the bar.
“Have you talked to him about the grand reopening?” Mindy asks.
“No. I haven’t thought about it, to tell you the truth. That’s the last thing on my mind when he’s around.” No sooner than the words fall out of my mouth, Cass steps out from the back of the bar. I look up in surprise. I was literally just back there. Where did he come from?
“So, mystery biker. Oh, sorry I mean boss man. When is this grand reopening?” Mindy asks.
“Everything is done, so I was thinking we could host the grand reopening on Friday. That gives us five days to get the word out and I’ve already had the flyers made up. There’s a stack of them on the desk in the office.”
“I guess that’s settled then. I’ll ride around and put them out around town today since the bar isn’t open yet,” she says. Mindy walks past him to the back, in search of the flyers Cass spoke of.
Cass approaches the bar and stands across from me.
“Can I help you?” I ask, quirking a brow at him.
“Yes, you can. Meet me here tonight, seven o’clock.”
