“We’re flying.” He says simply. Then he walks out of the closet and through a door on the other side of the bathroom that Ididn’t notice before. Another closet. Just as big as the one we were just in.

He throws a few things into a leather satchel, then shifts into his dragon form right there in his bedroom. He pushes a button on the wall with his nose—snout?—and the sliding glass doors open.

He drops his head, and I climb onto his back. And then we’re in the air, headed toward New Jersey.

Chapter 15

Kyro

“TheGoldHordespottedthat dragon again. Identified them as a member of the Ruby Diamond Horde,” Otto says, strolling into my office at the back of the club. “Do you want me to do anything about it?”

What the hell would the Ruby Diamond Horde still be doing in New York? They had some trade meetings with Midas two weeks ago, but they don’t usually stick around. Dragons are territorial, and the Ruby Diamond Horde hanging around New York is likely to cause trouble.

“Track them down, if you can. But be stealthy about it.”

“Mind if I take Damian with me?” This question is more hesitant than the last. He knows how I feel about members of the Gold Horde.

But we’re supposed to be at peace now, so I sighand jerk my chin up. “Fine. Just report back to me first. Not Midas.”

As Adrianna’s right hand, I handle anything that might be a threat to our security. I’ll let her know if it develops into something concerning.

Otto leaves, and I shift my attention to the other reports on my desk. Background checks on two new employees. When we were pushed out of New York, we were forced to move into shadier pursuits, but we’re careful with who we bring into the club. Our businesses may not be the most “legitimate,” but there are a few things the Silver Horde doesn’t get involved in. We don’t traffic in weapons or humans, and the only drugs we sell are those that are legal—though we may not always do it with a license.

There’s a knock at the door, quickly followed by Jasmine. “We got a member of the Gold Horde at the front, wanting in. What do you want me to do?”

I knew this would happen eventually. Even with the peace, the two hordes have mostly kept their distance. The mixed group at Cyrus and Finley’s wedding must have been a tipping point.

“Who is it?” I rub the space between my eyebrows.

“Jethro, and he’s got a guest with him.”

Her last words are yelled after me because I’m already halfwaydown the hall. What the hell is he doing bringing Sora here? This is supposed to be his night. And this isn’t a place for a girl like Sora. She might say she wants new experiences, but this is like throwing someone off a boat in the middle of the ocean when they don’t know how to swim.

I bet he only brought her here to ruin her view of me.

The door slams against the wall as I burst into the front lobby where the hostess checks guests into the club. “What the fuck are you doing here?”

Sora’s eyes widen. I clench my fists, immediately regretting my tone.

“Why are you here when it’s supposed to be your night?” I ask, more controlled.

“I told you I didn’t like the idea of splitting days. And since you didn’t say where we could or couldn’t take our girl, I thought it would be fun to come and visit our mate at work.”

“I’m not your anything.”

Jethro shrugs. “We’ll see.”

“How did you even know I’d be here?”

“Where else would you be?”

He has a point. This is where I handle most ofthe horde’s dealings, and I’m known to be a bit of a workaholic. I don’t like being home alone. It brings up too many memories.

“You only brought her here to convince her I’m not good enough for her.” There’s a menacing edge to my voice.

“Are you good enough for her?” He steps close, chest puffing out.

“Yes.”No. I’m not, but the goddess thinks I am, and I trust that.
