“Get Hannah in here. We need her help now.”

“You got it.” Sidney hurried down the hall to fetch Doctor Hannah Olivero, Brookes Zachary’s sister. Hannah had patched Kinsley up at her clinic when Victor and Kinsley had been rescued. Hannah had been forced to evacuate D.C. with the team when Legion discovered her connection to Brookes.

It had become procedure that someone with medical training fly with the team on every mission, because one never knew what would happen, and the stakes were high.

Hannah came toward him with her backpack that held medical supplies.

“Sidney updated you?” Victor asked when she stopped beside him.

Hannah quickly confirmed with a nod. “I’ll find it.”

Before Victor followed her inside, Kaid stopped him. “Those men are getting closer. Tom said there’s a road that intersects the back side of the property, but it’s going to be difficult to reach. We don’t have much time.”

Victor nodded. “Get everyone ready. As soon as the tracker is out, we’re leaving.”

Kaid confirmed and headed down the hall.

Victor stepped into the room where Duncan was giving Hannah grief.

“She says I have a tracking device implanted, but there’s no way.”

“I’m afraid there is a way.” Victor did his best to explain about the tracker.

“But wouldn’t I know about it?”

“Not necessarily. Look, Legion’s people are almost here. She has to remove the device before we can leave.”

Duncan finally agreed and Hannah rolled up his sleeve. “Sidney told me they’d found the device in the left forearm of one of Collins’s men.” She felt around Duncan’s arm. “I’m not seeing anything. . . wait.” She pressed down on a spot that held a tiny scar. “How did you get this?” she asked.

Duncan squinted at the scar, no bigger than a tiny scratch. “I don’t know.”

Hannah’s fingers probed the spot. “I feel it. They probably knocked you out for a period of time while they implanted it.”

The expression on Duncan’s face confirmed he recalled something. “I had a scare with my heart a few years back. . . It was during a meeting with Evans. He was the one who took me to an emergency clinic.” Duncan’s gaze shot between Hannah and Victor. “But it was a false alarm. The doctor found nothing. I was only there for a few hours.”

“It was all part of the plan,” Sidney told him. “Evans probably brought you to a place that appeared to be a medical facility, but it was full of Legion’s people.” She pointed to the scar. “They put you under while they implanted the tracking device.”

“Yes, I was under for a little bit.” Duncan shook his head. “I can’t believe it.”

Hannah took out a scalpel and looked Duncan in the eye. “This is going to hurt.” She didn’t give him time to process what she said before she cut open the skin above the tracker.

Duncan screamed and jerked his arm back. “Are you trying to kill me?”

“I don’t have time to deaden the spot.” Hannah grabbed his arm again and continued cutting. “I have it.” She reached for an instrument that looked like tweezers and pulled the device free before wrapping it in gauze.

Victor took it from her and dropped it on the ground smashing it underfoot.

Hannah quickly cleaned away the blood and slapped a bandage over the spot.

“We’ve got to go. Now.” Cole stood in the doorway. “They’re almost at the gate.”

“Go, we’ve destroyed the tracker.” Victor ushered Hannah and Duncan out to where the van and a pickup waited.

“Duncan, you and your wife are with us.” Victor wasn’t letting the traitor out of his sight, because the man hadn’t been completely honest with him. There were plenty of Legion’s secrets he’d held back.

???

The van was packed with people. Tom drove the truck in front of them carrying his wife and several Strike Force members. He snaked the vehicle through the overgrowth of trees as fast as safely possible.
