Paisley blew her nose into the tissue. “I’m sorry for being so silly. I’ll get over it. I just get so emotional sometimes.”

Amina remembered the paper bag in her hand and she understood why she’d gone to the bakery in the first place.“Fortunately, today must be your lucky day because I have a present for you.”

Paisley perked up and eyed the bag. “For me?”

Amina held it out to her. “Take a look.

Paisley took the bag and looked inside. She let out a squeal when she saw the contents. “Oh my gosh! Amina, you’re the absolute best. I know it’s just a stupid donut, but you have no idea how much I needed this. It’s shark week, so I’ve been craving one of these.”

“Shark week? As in the programs on the National Geographic Channel?”

Paisley giggled. “No, girl. It’s my time of the month, as in there’s blood in the water and I’m ready to attack, hence shark week.”

“Oh…” Amina still wasn’t 100 percent on board with that analogy but as long as it made sense to Paisley she would roll with it. “Well, you enjoy. I’m going to head back to my desk. The first patients should be coming in soon.”

The blonde gave her a thumbs up with a mouth full of the sugary snack.

Amina’s headed to her office and plopped in her seat trying to make sense of her morning thus far. By purchasing that donut, had she prevented Paisley quitting?

Did this mean she had really traveled back in time to relive the last five years of her life?

Amina barely got a chance to settle in, before a deep baritone called out her name and pulled her out of her deep musings.

She looked up to see her boss, Dr. Ethan Han standing in the doorway. All the color in his face was gone and his eyes were wide as if he’d seen a ghost.

“Amina?”

“Yes, Dr. Han. Good morning.”

“You’re here…” He whispered the words as if he was talking more to himself than to her.

“Yes…am I not supposed to be?” Judging from his reaction, maybe she wasn’t. But if that were the case, Paisley would have had the same reaction.

He nodded wordlessly before entering her office. “I mean…yes, you’re supposed to be here.”

Amina didn’t have a chance to react before he yanked her out of her chair and pulled her into his arms.

What the hell was going on?

Chapter

Three

Amina stiffened, unsure of how to react to this sudden invasion of her space. Sure, she liked Dr. Han just fine. As bosses went, he was one of the better ones. But there had never been anything in their relationship that invited physical touch.

Too stunned to push him away, she remained in his arms. Her head barely reached his broad shoulders and she found herself face pressed against a chest that felt hard as a rock. His scent unlocked a memory she long forgotten. Like most surgeons, he didn’t wear cologne but the clean odor of his soap and shampoo coupled with a woodsy smell, suddenly made her heart pound.

She remembered the first time they’d met at her initial interview for the office manager position. Amina had recently finished her degree in business administration and this would be the first job she had in her field. Her first impression of Dr. Han was that he was quite possibly one of the best looking men she’d ever laid eyes on.

Men like him weren’t supposed to exist in real life. Amina reckoned he was at least 6’2 with a broad shoulder, swimmers build. He had a glorious head of jet black hair that fell just belowhis ears, high cheekbones and a square jaw. His brown eyes were warm and welcoming while his full red lips were created for sin.

His most arresting feature by far was his smile. He had the most perfect, even white teeth. From one glance, most would assume he was a model or actor and not one of the best neurosurgeons in his field. When Amina first saw him, she had been rendered speechless because of the beautiful specimen of a man.

Amina quickly came to her senses however because this was the type of man who one was meant to be admired from afar. He could probably have almost any woman he wanted without putting in the effort. Dr. Han was someone wouldn’t give someone like her a second glance, and she had been fine with that.

Besides, him being her potential boss, she was seeing a very sweet man she was quickly falling for. Someone who had been there for her while she was grieving the loss of her grandmother.

At least at the time she thought Mark was a good man.
