"Okay, lead the way." I looped my arm through his, reasonably excited about what I was going to find inside. He hadn't told me much about the club since we got back together, mostly because everything had been out of his hands. But now his liquor license had been granted, the grand opening could happen.
There were already people lining up to get in, and I recognised some of them as being minor gods and immortals, including some regulars atThe Underworld. No doubt they wanted to discover what all the fuss was about here in the human world.
Not that there were likely to be many humans coming to a club like this. I imagined that most of the clientele would be gods, immortals, and paranormals. It would cater to the mix while not being off-limits to mortals in the god realm.
The bouncer nodded to Hades and lifted the rope to let us in. I smiled in thanks and let Hades lead me through into the main room.
I'd expected Hades to have recreatedThe Underworld, but that wasn't what he'd done at all.
"It's beautiful," I said, admiring the main room. There was a sizable dance floor, surrounded by comfortable-looking seating and a state-of-the-art bar in black and red.
"Thank you," he responded, his voice slightly raised over the music. "We've also got storerooms with items that can be used to transform the area into full seating or to put up a stage."
"Ah, you're thinking of what people could hire it for," I said. He'd always been competent at this, it was a wonder I hadn't seen it before I decided to end things because of his lack of drive. He was a hard-working person and certainly didn't lack ambition.
"I was thinking of Poseidon," he admitted.
"Has he still not told you what he wantsThe Underworldfor?"
"No."
"I'll get it out of him next time I see him," I promised.
Hades chuckled. "If anyone can, it's you." He kissed my cheek. "I'm going to get us some drinks. You can head off the in-coming love goddess who is bound to have questions for us."
I laughed, turning to Aine with a smile. The CEO of Jinx looked fabulous in a low-cut black dress. "Welcome," I said to her.
"I didn't expect to see you here," she said before her gaze slipped past me to where Hades was now standing at the bar. "Or maybe I did."
"Were we that obvious?"
"There was a reason our matchmaking system paired you together," she said. "It was only obvious after Hades declined a date offer."
"He did what?"
"You don't know?" She grimaced. "Pretend I didn't say anything."
"Well, now I want to know more."
"You should ask your husband about it," she said.
"I will."
Hades returned with drinks and set them down on the raised table beside us. "Good evening, Aine."
"Hades," she responded. "I like the club. You're making me think I should have bought one instead of a hotel."
I laughed. "I'm sure the hotel will be more useful."
"Maybe." She looked around curiously.
"You're welcome to hire the club any time," Hades said, pulling a business card holder out of his pocket and handing it to her.
"Thank you. I might have to. Some of the Jinx events are getting bigger than I anticipated."
"That's what happens when you have a successful business," I pointed out.
"Mmm, and aren't I glad of it." She looked between the two of us. "I'm not sure I can count you as a success story."
