The rest of the show passed in a blur, and before I knew it, we were heading back to my place. I got out of the car and faced Diana.
“I’m so happy you all invited me, and I got the chance to spend more time with you, Wren.” She drew me in for a hug and whispered in my ear. “I think the two of you are perfect for each other.”
I blinked back the tears that rushed to spill from my eyes. I had a feeling that if I let her, Diana would be someone I could count on and grow to love. “Thanks.” I didn’t bother pretending I had no idea what she meant. Her approval meant too much to me to taint it with lies.
I jerked as a small body slammed into my side and wrapped me and Diana in a crushing hug. “Thank you, Ms. Winter, for taking me tonight. I had the most magical time.”
I hugged her back. “I did too.”
Diana pulled away and tugged Zoey along with her. “Thank you again.”
We waved until they drove out of sight.
Beckett moved in behind me. My ass brushed against his cock, which was already at half mast, and I moaned. “You have ten minutes to grab your stuff and get in your car to follow me home.”
“Or what?” My voice lowered into a sultry pitch.
“I’ll pick you up, throw you over my shoulder, and you can wear what you have on to work tomorrow, or go naked. Your choice.”
“I bet I can do it in eight.” A carefree laugh bubbled to the surface as I darted from him and into the building.
I wanted this with him. I wanted it all. And tonight, I’d tell him that.
Chapter Twenty
WREN
We lay in bed together. My head tucked into the curve of his shoulder, my hand resting on his chest. His fingers ran over the back of my hand. The light touch was comforting. I didn’t want to move from this spot and hated that morning was a few hours away.
“Take the day off. Spend it with me.” Be still my heart. I was pretty sure Beckett didn’t take days off, even when sick.
I gasped in mock horror. “Did someone invade your body?”
“What’re you talking about?” he scoffed.
I tilted my head to face him and grinned. “Mr. Work Work Work wants to play hooky. Who are you, and what have you done with my man?”
“Oh really, I’m your man?” He hauled me up to lay on top of him, our bodies flush together, with no space or distance, our faces practically touching. His hands ran up and down my back in soothing strokes.
“That’s all you got out of what I was saying?” I swatted playfully at him.
“That was the most important thing you said.” His expression grew serious, and his hands that had been lazily stroking my back, stopped to rest at the base of my spine. “Did you mean it?”
My heart beat furiously inside my chest. “Yeah, if you still want to be.”
“How is that even a question?” He placed a light kiss on my lips. “Of course I do.”
I let out a breath. Navigating a relationship together was going to be challenging.
“You okay?”
I propped my arms on his chest and laid my chin on them. “This is a big step for me. I’m still freaking about the school finding out, and I hate that we will have to keep our relationship under wraps, but I want to be with you. Even if it means sneaking around until Zoey moves to the next grade.” Even then the clause about dating would apply, but without Zoey in my classroom, it might be easier to fight for the right to be together.
His hands lightly caressed my back and curved over my butt. “This is all new to me too, Wren. I don’t do relationships.”
“Until now,” I clarified with a wink.
“Until now,” he agreed and pinched my ass.
