“So if we give in to it, we won’t crave each other anymore?” He didn’t look convinced.
“It’s the perfect scenario. After a few nights, I bet we’ll be back to our snarky selves and want nothing to do with each other.”
His gaze turned inward for a moment before focusing on me. “Okay, I’m in. How do we do this?”
I shrugged. “I don’t know. I’ve never done a secret sex thing before.”
His lips twitched in amusement. “My mom has Zoey on Wednesday night.”
This definitely couldn’t happen with Zoey around. “It’s a date,” I regretted the words the moment they came out of my mouth. “Not a date. It’s a non-date just for sex.” Oh my God, I needed to shut up.
He lifted me off the counter and placed me on my feet.
I wobbled for a second before my equilibrium returned. It helped that his large hands never let go of my hips.
He placed a light kiss on my lips. “I’m looking forward to our non-date sexcapade.”
A laugh burst out of me. “That sounds even worse.”
Beckett’s hands ran along my hips, igniting flares of heat beneath my skin, even with the fabric of my skirt between us. When he reached the hem, he slid his hands up until they reached my panties. He hooked his fingers around the edges and pulled them down, forcing me to step out of them when they slid past my knees.
“What are you doing, weirdo?” I teased.
He shot a wolfish grin my way and stood up. My breath caught when he lifted my robin’s egg blue underwear to his nose and inhaled deeply. “This is for me until I see you again.”
My knees trembled at the sight of him doing that. Why was this so hot? I wanted to melt into him and ask for a repeat of what had just occurred.
He tucked the pair into the back pocket of his pants and turned me around to face the door. “You leave first. I’ll clean up and then come out and join you.”
“What if they know what we did?” Nerves gripped me. Not that I regretted what happened, I just didn’t want to talk about it. It was also a good thing I hadn’t actually needed to use the bathroom and was only trying to get away from him since I had no opportunity to do that now.
He swatted my ass. “No one is going to know.” He cracked open the door and gently pushed me through.
When the door clicked shut, I turned to walk down the hall only to have Ruby pin me with a surprised stare only feet away. “Wren, you got a lot of splainin’ to do,” she said, imitating Ricky Ricardo. “It’s a good thing I came to find you and not someone else.”
Heat rushed to my cheeks.
“The others were afraid you and Beckett were going at it.”
I gasped. Had they all heard us?
Ruby laughed riotously at what I’m sure was a horrified look on my face. “They thought you might be fighting off in a corner somewhere.”
I let my head drop to my chest, finally able to breathe. “They didn’t…” I couldn’t finish the sentence.
She shook her head. “Nope, but we should be getting back to everyone before they suspect whatever went on in there.”
I fell into step beside her. “Do I look okay?”
She stopped and smoothed down a few pieces of hair for me. “That should do it.”
I grinned. “Thanks.”
“That’s what friends are for.”
I glanced at the shut door behind me and said a few prayers that I wasn’t making a huge mistake.
