She yelped. “Get your damn hands off of me.”
“You need to come with us, Ms. Alden. It’s not a request.” The voice was polite, yet firm.
“No, I really don’t. I don’t need two guys to escort me anywhere.” The muffled sounds got louder, more frantic.
She was struggling. I knew it. No, no, no, no. I needed to do something. If someone had her it was because of me.
“Let her go,” I screamed.
No response.
“Lexi!” I screamed again into the phone.
Still nothing, except for the sounds of Lexi struggling. I was going to find whoever dared to scare my friend and I’d make them pay.
“Leave her alone,” I yelled.
When I still didn’t get a response, I screamed at the top of my lungs.
The sounds stopped.
“Who was that?” The same male voice from earlier asked.
Lexi didn’t answer.
It didn’t fucking matter. “Me, I’m here you fucking asshole. Pick up the damn phone.”
He chuckled. The fucking asshole was going to regret laughing at me. “Hello.”
“You don’t want her.”
“For right now we do.” I could tell there was a smile on his stupid face.
“Fuck you.” I wanted to rip his head off.
“Ms. Sulton, I presume.”
“Don’t tell them anything!” Lexi yelled.
“Don’t you dare hurt her,” I growled.
“That’s not our intention. Our hope was to gain your attention. Lucky us, we didn’t have to track you down.”
They could have me if it meant that Lexi got away. “What do you want with me?”
“Your time.”
“Then let her go.”
“Not until we have you. We have rules to follow too.” He sounded unapologetic.
He and whoever else was with him were involved in a kidnapping and he sounded like we were going out for a coffee. How could he be so nonchalant about this?
“What do you need me to do?” He had to know I’d do anything to keep her safe. It’s why they chose Lexi as collateral.
“I’ll message you where to meet us. Keep your mouth shut about this.”
“If you so much as hurt her I’ll rip your balls off and stuff them down your throat.”
