Her eyes lit up.
“And no. We don’t want that. There is always another way to find the person. Putting you in danger is not going to help.”
She pursed her lips but dropped it. I didn’t fool myself into thinking she was done with the conversation, but I also knew there was nothing she could say to get me to change my mind.
I slid my hands under her ass and picked her up. Her legs immediately went around my waist, her core rubbing against my hardening cock. “Ready to go back to bed?”
Jess gave me a coy smile. “Always, handsome.”
My heart leaped in my chest. Keeping her safe was the most important thing to me.
Chapter Twenty
Jess
Ihummed a made-uptune as I tried my hand at eggs over easy. Over the past five days Alden had taught me the basics of cooking. I know it’s just breakfast, but I’m proud of myself. The toast was a light brown, and the scent of bacon permeated the air, and now I just needed to flip the fucking eggs. The first one decided to be an asshole and broke the moment the spatula touched it, but the second was now my favorite because it flipped over perfectly.
I’m about to high-five myself when I hear the creak of the bedroom door. A big grin stretched across my face. I’d intended to bring Alden breakfast in bed, but clearly that was off the table now. I was lucky he’d even slept in this late. The guy got up the moment the sun rose. It was annoying.
“Good morning, lover,” I said, as I pulled the plates closer and put the eggs on them.
When he didn’t immediately answer I knew something wasn’t right. The air in the room was charged, and not in a good, sexy way. I turned to face Alden, looking for some clarification.
He stood only feet from me, anger radiating from his body. Deep grooves filled his forehead while he stared at me with a look of utter disappointment.
After placing the phone carefully on the counter, he slowly slid it toward me. “What is this?” His voice was low-pitched and rough.
“Uh, okay,” I didn’t look at the screen yet.
“I want you to explain it to me,” His eyes never left my face. I cringed when a flash of disappointment flared in his eyes.
His disappointment was worse than the anger I set in the rigid lines of his body.
My belly cramped, yet I forced my eyes to focus on his screen. With a deep breath, I bit my lip, and glanced down. “It’s one of my social media pages?”
He gave me a curt nod. James was clearly mad at me, and I was getting tired of him being so cryptic.
