I nodded. “Did you get that, Gage?”
“Yup. Give me a minute.” I could hear him typing in the background.
“She headed to a small town in New York. The airport is probably smaller than Green. It’s a forty-minute flight and according to their records she’s already in the air.”
I pounded my fist against the island surface. “Damn it,” I growled. How could I protect Jess if she was going to take off like that? “I need a flight out of here. Can I book one with the same place?” This was going to eat all of my savings, but I needed to get to Jess and Lexi.
“Shit, Alden. Neither you nor I have the cash for this. She’s paying ten thousand dollars an hour and from what I can tell, it was their only plane available.”
“Fuck, fuck, fuck!”
Gage started typing again. “I checked the airlines. The next flight out won’t get you there for a few more hours.”
If Jess left without me time was of the essence. I had to believe she would’ve waited for me otherwise. “I need another way there.”
“Who do we know with a private plane?” Gage asked. We’d worked with various people in politics, rockstars, actors, and I was about ready to go through that list and call in any favor I had to.
Then it hit me. I might not have to. “I bet Jaxon has one or could get one for us. Let me call you back.”
I dialed Jaxon who picked up on the second ring. “Hello.”
“I need your help.” I didn’t have time for niceties.
“Alden?” He paused. “Is Jess all right?”
“I don’t know. She took off while I was out running errands. We were able to figure out she hired a private jet to go to New York. I need you to get me there.”
“I don’t have my own plane. What the hell was Jess fucking thinking?”
A chill raced down my spine. Jaxon was my last hope.
Even though I had clients I could call and ask for a favor, it would take too long to get through the list, and the tingle at the back of my neck told me we didn’t have that long.
“But Dean does. Hold on, let me add him to our call.”
“Thanks Jaxon.”
“Just make sure she comes home safe Alden, or I’ll have your head on fucking platter.” Jax looked out for Jess like an older brother and I had no doubt this was not an idle threat.
“There’s no other option,” I answered gruffly.
“Good,” he grunted. “Dean’s about to get on. I texted him first to let him know the situation.”
Dean’s deep voice immediately filled the line. “Alden. Hi.”
“Hi.” Pleasantries seemed like a waste of time right now, but if the guy was going to help get me to Jess, I’d do it. “Can you get me a plane?”
“Ash is on another line with our pilot. We’ll have the plane ready the moment you get there.”
I let out a huge breath. “Thank you. I owe you.”
“Jess is a friend, Alden. That means we help each other out. I’ll tell the pilot to stay there in case you need him for anything else. I’m here to help any way you need me.” Dean was CEO to the wealthiest family in the state. I didn’t know him well, but he was best friends with Jaxon. That had to count for something.
“Thanks, I’ll have my partner Gage message you the flight information so I can head out now.”
“Okay.” Dean gave me his number, which I punched into my phone.
“Thanks again.” Dean hung up, leaving me with Jaxon.
