Chapter Twenty-Eight

Jess

Ipaced the first floorof the building my grandparent’s company was based in, waiting for Ruby to arrive for the past ten minutes. My heart pounded, a headache brewed at the base of my skull, and I was fucking nervous.

James’ hands snagged my waist and yanked me close. My nose buried in his chest, as his arms wrapped tightly around me. Thank God he was here. I drew in a deep breath. The scent of him helping to calm me down.

“It’s almost over, baby,” he crooned.

My nails dug into his back as I held on tight. “I just want this to be fucking over.”

“I know.” He rubbed at my back.

“Maybe I need a quickie to calm me down,” I muttered, my eyes darting around the room to work out the nearest utility closet or something.

“If I thought we had time, you know I’d be all in.”

And he would. James would do anything I wanted to make me happy, within reason of course, I grinned.

“It’s my birthday, James Alden. We can make the time.” I looked up at him through my eyelashes and bit my lower lip. My hand teased the waistband of his pants.

He sucked in a breath. “Babe, if for one second I thought it would work, I’d make the time, but when you come on my cock I want to know you’re in the moment feeling me balls deep inside of you. Not worrying about what’s about to go down today.”

Fuck! This man.My breath came out in soft pants, and I had to stop myself from rubbing all over his body. At his words, desire slammed into me and I pressed my thighs together. “I’m always present with your hard cock inside of me.”

James’ nostrils flared and he discreetly reached down to adjust himself.

I didn’t bother to hide my grin. If I was going to walk into the next meeting with the lady equivalent of blue balls, so could he.

The front door bounced open making both of us jump. “Sorry, it took so long,” Ruby called out with a quick exhale. She had a large bakery box in her arms that she could barely see over.

“Let me help,” James took the box from her, making it seem like it weighed nothing.

“Oh my God, thank you. I was so afraid I’d drop it.” She made her way to me and hugged me tight. “You okay?”

“Yeah, I’m fine.” Outside of my raging hormones and the fear that my parents were trying to destroy me? Yeah, I was cool.

James snorted at my bald-faced lie.

“I’ll be fine.” I corrected myself. “Thank you, Ruby.”

“It’s a small thing I can do for you today. Happy birthday.” She gave me a sweet, encouraging smile.

I grabbed the nearby cart we’d taken from the supply closet, draped a small tablecloth over, and wheeled it to James. I loved how gently he laid the box down on it.

“I wish I could be up there with you,” Ruby worried her bottom lip between her teeth.

“Not a chance. We still don’t know how this is all going to go down. I need you out of the line of fire,” I reminded her.

Ruby nodded and pointed to the seating area in the lobby by the coffee shop. “I can wait for you over there until it’s over. Text me, okay?”
