What am I going to do? My dick is rock-hard and throbbing like a motherfucker. Her cheeks are flushed and her dark blue eyes sparkle like brilliant jewels. She wants me. I never thought I’d see the day that the woman of my dreams wants me. It’s like my dirtiest, most dangerous fantasy come to life.
Because there’s one thing I know. If I touch her anymore than I already have, I will fucking own this woman the same way she owns me.
And her brother will kill me. I’ll let him too. I know as well as any other fucker out there…the bro code. You don’t touch a brother’s sister. Not unless you want to give him the chance to royally fuck you up.
And Chris would. He’d have the right to.
I clear my throat and clench my fingers so tight on the steering wheel that it creaks. Thunder crashes and in the dim light I can see the pure desire in her beautiful eyes.
“Heather. I can’t believe that I let that happen. I should never have touched you and I’m sorry. I’ll make sure that it never happens again.”
She sighs and then I see her head nod slightly out of the corner of my eye. The rain pounds down and thunder rolls, shaking the car. I see her shiver and I want to reach out and touch her, hold her, keep her safe.
“Right. Of course. That was a mistake. I agree.” She says it all so quietly that I almost miss it under the fury of the storm. The rain pounds on the car so hard that it sounds like hail. She turns her head and stares blindly out the window. Lightning flashes, outlining her delicate profile. She looks so sad and I hate that. I want to kick my own ass.
We sit like that for what feels like hours and the rain keeps coming. The road around us starts to wash over with water and my gut tightens. What will we do if it floods? We’re completely open to the elements here. Security is my thing and this is fucking bad. I’d never leave someone like this.
“We might have to make a run for it, Heather. If this place starts to flood we’re in a blind canyon. Perfect area for a fucking flash flood.”
She nods her head and bites her lip. I want to drag my thumb across her mouth and pull her lip free. Want to bite it myself, dammit!
Rain pours down for another five minutes and I search the area around us on my phone. There’s a fleabag motel alongside the road about ten minutes away from here by car so it will take a helluva lot longer to get there on foot but it might be our only shot.
“We’ve got to go, Red.” Her head jerks towards me and she nods once, reaching for the door handle. I reach for her hand, staying it. Her eyes stay locked on me and her breath huffs out. “It doesn’t matter if you have an umbrella or not, you can’t use it in this. Do you have a jacket to protect yourself?”
She shakes her head and I nod, reaching back to grab for my coat, handing it to her. “Use this.”
“What about you?” She whispers.
“I’ll be fine, Red. Just put on the damned coat.” Then I step out of the car. The rain rushes over me, blurring my vision until it’s hard to see in front of me. Lightning flares and then a low rumble of thunder shakes the ground.
I hate dragging her out in this but I have a bad feeling that we’re in the exact wrong place.
She runs around the front of the car, my hip-length jacket hitting her about her knees. She’s swallowed whole by the fabric and she looks damned adorable. She looks like mine.
But her eyes widen and she jumps when thunder rumbles over us again.
“Come on,” I yell, pulling her to the side of the road and up. We need higher ground which is where I don’t want to be in the intensity of the storm. But it’s lightning or flood. A damned if you do, damned if you don’t decision.
We run and slide on the slippery ground, dirt clinging to my hands as I pull us higher. My legs slip out and I grab for the dirt with my hand, digging my nails into the earth like it’s a lifeline.
But I refuse to let go of her. Honestly, I feel if I let go of her in this, she might blow away on the gales of wind buffeting us. She’s so damn tiny.
We make it to high ground and I wince when I look back. Dark water’s trickling into the canyon and I groan. She turns to look back but I grab her chin and turn it back to me. I shake my head. “Don’t look back, Red. I know you love that car.”
Her dad gave her that car when she graduated from college. It’s survived a lot of running around and traveling but I don’t think it’s gonna make it through this.
“Let’s go, Red. We’ve got a lot of miles to cover.”
HEATHER
Staggering through the door to the one room that we rented I drop to the chair that’s sitting right there. Jude grabs my arm and nods his head. “Go take a shower. You’re cold and wet. I don’t want you to get sick.”
I nod at him. “So are you. What are you gonna do?”
“I’m gonna call your brother and tell him what happened and see if I can make arrangements for a car to come get us. I’ll be fine. I’ll feel better if you jump in the shower first.”
Nodding, I grab some towels and head for the bathroom. The cracked tiled and gray bath mat make me cringe. There’s an iron rust ring around the tub.
