She breaks the kiss, hitting me with a wicked grin as she lifts her hips before impaling herself on my stiff cock. We both moan at the sensation and she lets herself settle on my length. I feel her soften around me, adjusting to the fullness.
“God, you feel so good, I could stay like this forever,” I say, staring at her from where I lean back on her carefully constructed mountain of pillows. I start to grab her hips but she slaps my hand away.
“Be patient. You’re not supposed to be doing any work,” she says. A look of pure lust crosses her face as she begins working me inside of her, swirling her hips wickedly and throwing her head back in ecstasy. I lean my head back, refusing to close my eyes. I don’t want to miss a moment of her heavy curls bouncing around, her hands working her own tits since she won’t let me. She’s the most perfect thing I’ve ever seen.
“I-I’m almost there,” she says after a moment, lowering a hand to her center and circling the sensitive nub.
“Take me with you because I can’t sit here and do nothing with you looking likethat,” I say to her. She understands and quickens her pace, working me inside of her expertly. A moment later, I feel that familiar tightening in my core and she lets out a scream as she explodes around me. I tumble after her, feeling myself burst inside of her as her walls flutter around me.
“I love you,” she whispers as she crawls off of me and settles beside me.
“I love you too, honey. All of this was worth it to get you,” I say, pulling her close and pressing a kiss to her perfect hair once again.
As we drift off next to each other, I can’t help but think I would have taken a thousand bullets for her to end up right here.
Epilogue
Rosie
One year later…
School has just let out for the summer and I’m looking forward to the break. Although, it won’t be much of a break since I’m spending the summer helping Wade with the logistics of his new construction business. He and Sophie started the full-service home design firm after Sophie moved to Whiskey Mountain six months ago. It’s really taken off as so many people are eager to redo their old cabins or expand existing spaces.
They started with my cottage, expanding the small structure to add two more bedrooms and another bathroom to accommodate our growing family. Yep, we’re expecting a little girl in the fall and we couldn’t be more excited to meet her.
I can’t believe how much has changed in the last year. About a week after Wade got home from the hospital, the police showed up at our door to tell us they had found Steve holed up in a motel a few towns over. He was arrested and his trial was last winter. Both of us and Luke were called to testify against him. That, combined with the crystal-clear security footage the school shared of him shooting Wade, lead to him being sentenced to more than a decade in prison for attempted murder.
I didn’t want things to turn out this way for him, but he got what he deserved after making my life hell for a year and nearly killing the love of my life. The school has also gone above and beyond to tamp down the sexism I was experiencing as a young, female department head. They hired new teachers that share my vision for the school and I just finished up a fantastic year of school, feeling a bit sad I won’t be returning until after the holidays due to my maternity leave.
I’m finishing up a few last-minute things in my classroom when I hear a knock on my door. I smile when I see Tessa there, a hand placed on her baby bump, too. Who would’ve thought that when she knocked on my door this time last year that we’d both be expecting baby girls a year later. It’s been so wonderful to experience pregnancy with my closest friend and colleague and I can’t wait to live this next chapter of our lives together.
“Want to get a drink? Non-alcoholic is so boring, but at least we’re doing it together,” she says with a smile.
“I’d love to,” I say. I tell her I’ll meet her in a few minutes, and I can’t help but smile at the memory of her knocking on my door last year to ask the same thing. If she hadn’t, I don’t know if I ever would have met Wade, if I would have lost my life like Steve intended. It’s shown me that everything really does happen for a reason.
I waddle out of the building a few minutes later, finding Tessa on the phone. She hangs up quickly when she sees me and I raise an eyebrow in her direction. “Just checking in on Rubes,” she says, “wanted to see if she needed anything.”Weird.Ruby pretty much never needs anything when she’s off at a friend’s. I let the thought go as we link arms and start our walk to the brewery.
We chat about setting up our nurseries together, how we’re going to spend our maternity leave, and promising to keep each other accountable about getting out of the house after we have the babies.
I’m in such a good mood when we walk into the brewery, I don’t even notice the suspicious lack of customers. Only our friends are here, I realize. Scott and Ethan are behind the bar, looking like they’re trying to suppress grins. Luke is sitting at the bar, reaching out to slide Tessa’s chair closer to him as soon as she sits down. Sophie is seated on the other end of the bar with her new boyfriend, Jack, who just moved here after finishing up in the CIA. He’s the perfect balance to her creative personality.
I spot Ava and Luna peeking through the door that leads to the back, shooting downwards as soon as they see me looking at them.
“Okay, what the hell is going on? Why is it so dead in here? Why are you guys acting so weird?” I say, addressing my question to everyone since there is quite literally no one I’m not friends with in here.
“I think I can explain that,” a deep voice says from the doorway. I smile when I see wade, black curls wild as always, beard neatly trimmed. He’s dressed in a green corduroy shirt that complements his eyes and jeans. He’s still the most handsome man I’ve ever seen. “Follow me, honey,” he says, holding out his hand to me.
I look back to our friends who are now all piled around the same corner of the bar and staring at me with giant grins.Weird,I think again. I reach the door and Luke grabs my hand before patting my belly with his other hand. “Missed you,” he says, pressing a kiss to my cheek. I warm at the contact, just like always.
“What is going on?” I ask with a laugh as he pulls me behind him, leading to the open stretch of land behind the brewery. My jaw drops when I see it’s not so empty anymore. It’s filled with rows and rows of rose bushes.
“How… when did you do this?” I ask, but the question is caught in my throat as Wade lowers to one knee in front of me.
“My perfect, inquisitive Rosie,” he says with a laugh. “The moment we met last year, I knew you were the one for me. The next day when I came in to work, I asked the guys if this land was being used for anything. When they said no, I asked if I could use it for something. They said they didn’t care, of course,” he says with a laugh before gesturing around us. “So I planted these, nurtured them all year to show you how much I love you, how long I’ve loved you. I knew this would be where I asked you to spend the rest of your life with me and I wanted it to be beautiful for you. I wanted it to represent you.”
Tears are streaming down my face as I think of him running around, tending to these secret rosebushes all year. His effort, how early he knew he loved me, all of it makes me weak in the knees. If I wasn’t already carrying his child, I’d want to start right here and now. He is everything to me.
“So, honey. Will you be my wife? Make me the happiest man in the world, honey.”
