“Yeah, Soren’s my real name.”

Sticking my hands in the pocket of my hoodie, I walked through his apartment one room at a time. It was bare and boring but the dining room table was covered in weapons and gear. Along the wall behind it was a massive desk with an insane array of computers and monitors.

“Why are you spying on her?”

“Why haven’t you told her about it?”

I turned slightly to see he was watching me with his arms crossed over his chest, leaning against the wall like this was just another day.

His calm reaction to my intrusion was starting to piss me off.

I shrugged a shoulder and eyed the sniper rifle laid out on the table. “I don’t think you’re going to hurt her.”

“What makes you think that?”

“Because you can’t resist her.” I smirked and picked up one of the bullets for the rifle. “Don’t worry, I don’t blame you for the way you begged her not to leave. Francesca has this way of stripping you down to your bones, and still, you’d offer her your marrow too if only she kept holding you.”

Soren didn’t move from his strategic location. Between me and the door like I was the one trapped in here with him instead of the other way around.

I narrowed my eyes, wondering if anything I said would get through to him or if he was too embedded in this job of his to understand he was already useless to his employer.

“And who exactly are you to be watching her so closely?” Soren asked.

This little rat actually seemed defensive.

Good for him.

“I’ve known Francesca for a long time,” I bragged. “These games she plays are old news and you’re not the first person she’s fucked around with just to piss me off.”

A muscle in his jaw flickered and I smirked.

“Once she gets tired of you, she’ll move on and I’ll be right here, waiting.” That red eye glared at me, so bright it was nearly feral. “But you? You’ll never be able to move on. You’ll be thinking about her for the rest of your life until you go fucking insane. Ask me how I know.”

“Speaking from personal experience I assume,” Soren murmured.

Oh, she mustlovethat soft, deep voice of his.

The wave of violence crashing over me was sharp and familiar but I didn’t feel the need to give in to it. Not yet at least.

I carefully set the bullet down and smiled. “You’ve been looking for me.”

“I have.”

What a guy. He didn’t even blink when I called him out on it either.

“Find anything interesting?” I picked up a flash grenade, impressed with the variety of his weapons.

“No,” Soren gritted out.

Would you look at that? He did possess feelings other than lust.

“How about this then.” I tossed the grenade up in the air, high enough it nearly hit the ceiling and Soren actually flinched. I grinned and caught the grenade before it hit the floor. “You answer my questions and I’ll answer yours.”

That fleck of red in his brown eye glimmered and I couldn’t help but fixate on it. It glowed in the low light and I found it mesmerizing.

Would that fleck turn grey if he became an omega?

“Fine,” Soren stated as he pushed off the wall. “But let’s make this game of yours a little more interesting.”
