Wolf’s Prey
Ten minutes before the designated meeting time of 2:00 PM, I started the car and proceeded to the address in the navigation system. I looked over at Abel whose serious expression matched mine. When I reached the parking lot, I turned the radio down. “Are you ready?” I asked.
“I stay ready. You know that, bro,” he assured me.
There were three buildings in this parking lot. The snipers from the Sons of Destruction
Cypress Hills were in position. They were situated on the building on the far left, so they had the best angle of the door. Some of our guys along with members from the Sons of Destruction High Beach were parked behind the third building on the right. We noticed there were two black trucks parked directly in front of the building in the middle.
I stopped the car but left it unlocked. We would need to make a quick exit once the shooting popped off. Abel and I exited the car then walked toward the trunk to get the duffel bags. I grabbed one and he grabbed the other. Uncle Will and Tone parked their bikes then joined as we made our way toward the door of the building.
I made sure my bulletproof vest was tight and the snaps on my gun holster were undone. My shoulder was tender, but I had to ignore the pain just like I did earlier at the clubhouse. An uneasy feeling swept over me, but I shook it off. It was a feeling I was used to whenever I had to let my gun talk.
I placed the duffel bag in front of me just as the door opened. Oz walked out first followed by some dude that held on to Alexis as he led her out of the building. Her hands were bound by rope and there was a black covering over her face. My nostrils flared as I witnessed them handling my girl. Yeah, they had to die for real. Abel and I approached Oz and his man. Two more members of Oz’s crew appeared out of the warehouse. There could be more of them, but I was pretty confident they didn’t outnumber us.
Abel threw the duffel bag in front of Oz. “Here is your bread. You can let her go now,” he commanded.
Oz laughed a long hearty laugh that I didn’t appreciate. “I was going to take the money anyway but you ain’t leaving here alive. You killed my brother so you gotta die too.” Oz pushed Alexis in front of Abel while he pulled a gun out his back and aimed it at Abel’s head.
He was too slow because I had my gun pulled and shot Oz in the head before he could get off in Abel’s direction. Bullets rang out from all angles. The shootout was in full swing. I swooped in and grabbed Alexis while Abel covered us while he continued to shoot. As I made my way to the car with Alexis, the other members of our crew that were behind the other building were now out front and center with us.
When we stood by the car, I noticed everyone that was in front of the warehouse was on the ground. The Sons of Destruction members checked to make sure the opposing crew were dead while I tended to Alexis. I took the covering off her head then removed the tape from her mouth as she cried loudly in my arms. “It’s okay, baby. I’m here. You’re safe now. Let it out.”
Abel eventually ran over to her, but she never let me go. “I’m glad you’re safe, sis. I can’t tell you how sorry I am. One day I hope you can forgive me,” he mumbled.
Alexis just nodded her head, too shaken to respond. I put her in the car and sat in the back with her. Abel drove us to my house while I continued to console her. During the ride, Alexis eventually fell asleep. Her soft snores reminded me of the ride we took home from the hospital.
I prayed they didn’t touch her. I’d seen men do terrible things to the women of their enemies, and I never wanted that for Alexis. It was one of the main reasons I hung up my vest. This part of my life was done, and Alexis being kidnapped was further confirmation for me. Even though those dudes wanted Abel, Alexis still became a casualty of the game. I couldn’t let that happen. She didn’t become a doctor to deal with a man that couldn’t be a law-abiding citizen. She deserved more from me.
Before I knew it, we exited the highway and followed the road that led to my home. Abel pulled up to the gate and put the code in. Once we were inside the gate, I gently nudged Alexis to get up. The nudge didn’t work as she was still sound asleep.
“Wake up, sleeping beauty,” I whispered softly in her ear.
She stirred in her sleep. I rubbed her arm, and she opened her eyes.
“We’re home, babe. Come on, let’s get you to bed,” I spoke softly.
Abel exited the car then Alexis sat up and stretched. I exited the car then went to her side to open the door for her. She moved slowly and I became concerned. I didn’t want to ask anything about what happened while she was captive. There was a chance she could shut down if anything happened to her. Her shutting down made her accessible to Abel’s enemies, so it needed to be avoided at all costs.
We entered the house through the garage. Alexis took a seat at the island in the kitchen and stared back and forth between Abel and me.
“Don’t worry, Lexxy. I told him about us. I let him punch me in the face too,” I explained.
I looked over at Alexis. Her brows were raised in shock that Abel knew about us.
“Abel, I’m sure you’re upset but you didn’t need to hit him,” Alexis insisted.
“Actually, I’m not upset anymore. I’m not going to pretend that I’m happy about this. After what I saw today, there is no one else I would prefer my sister to be with. You didn’t hesitate to rally up everyone to ensure her safety. And you didn’t hesitate to use yourself as a shield when the bullets started flying. Y’all have my blessing,” Abel expressed.
I reached my hand out to give him a dap. All of the stress and worry Alexis and I did this entire time seemed silly now. My mother and Uncle Will were right. Everything worked out. I was upset with myself when we found out Alexis was kidnapped. Abel had every right to be pissed with me. I’m glad I was able to show him how much she meant to me.
“You have always had her best interests at heart. Don’t fuck over my sister, and we’ll be good,” he said to me.
“I love Alexis. I would never do anything to hurt her. She will always be loved and protected with me. I can promise you that,” I declared.
Alexis looked a little shocked at my declaration of love. I didn’t get to tell her, but we could talk about that later.
“Abel, are you staying here for tonight?” she asked.
