“Wolf, are you okay? I’ve been calling your name.”
“Yeah, I just got lost in the memories that led to these drawings. Come on, let’s go for a walk. I just wanted to show you part of the house you can come to if you ever need some alone time. It’s important to me that you are comfortable here. I know we uprooted you, but this is as much your home as it is mine.”
“It’s funny you say that. I have felt right at home since I walked into the house,” Alexis said with a smile.
While we walked around the property, I tried not to ruin the moment by letting her know I was tired. I noticed that I became tired a lot faster than normal since the shooting. While I didn’t expect to be running around the house right now, I also didn’t expect to be sweating profusely. Alexis must have noticed my pace slowing down. She stopped to look at me.
“Are you okay? We can go back inside if you need to. I don’t need you overexerting yourself.” She must have noticed my hesitation in response to her question. “Come on, let’s get you inside. I think we could both use a nap.”
Alexis had no idea how much I appreciated her not making it obvious that I was in pain. I was still a man, so my pride wouldn’t allow me to say out loud how this gunshot wound affected me. My only hope was that the recovery wouldn’t take too long. It was only the second day without drawing or inking anything. The withdrawal from not doing the two things that I enjoyed more than anything in this world was serious.
By the time we made it back inside the house, going upstairs to my bedroom was out of the question. I went to the living room, sat on the couch, then turned the television on. I thought Alexis was right behind me, but a few minutes later she appeared in the room with a glass of water, my antibiotics, and a painkiller. I patted the sofa next to me so she could take a seat. She watched me intently while I swallowed the pills.
I lay back on the sofa and pulled her down to lay on my chest, then I wrapped my arm around her while I tried my best to adjust the other arm that was in the sling. Before I knew it, I was out for the count.
Just Me andYou
I woke up from my sleep in an unfamiliar space. My confusion heightened when I looked over and realized Wolf was in a deep sleep beside me. We were fully clothed so that made me feel better. I slowly remembered us waking up in the middle of the night on the sofa. Wolf nudged me to get in bed, so we made our way upstairs. I went toward my room, and he pulled me toward his instead. At the time I didn’t have the energy to protest. Besides, I had the best sleep on the couch with my head on his chest than I had in years.
It must have been difficult for Wolf to sleep with his arm in the sling, but he seemed to have found some level of comfortability. I admired the look of relaxation on his face. He was so handsome. I loved his full beard and the tattoos that littered his body. They all meant something to him. He always told me any mark he made on his body had to make sense.
I stopped myself from running my fingers through his thick beard. His question of if I was down to ride still lingered in my mind. I thought about it all day. Ultimately, I decided I would let my spirit lead me to the right answer. Everything felt so right between us. I felt like I already knew.
The ringing of Wolf’s phone interrupted my lustful stares. Without opening his eyes, he reached over for his phone on the nightstand. I wasn’t sure if he needed privacy or not, so I started to get up to give him some. Wolf answered the phone then mouthed to me that it was Abel. As I prepared to leave, he put his leg over mine and mouthed for me to stay. I was uncomfortable. My brother wasn’t even in the room with us, and I felt guilty. They didn’t talk for long, which I was grateful for. Once they got off, Wolf looked at me confused.
“Where were you running to, Lexxy?”
“I wanted to give you some privacy.”
His leg was still covering mine while he questioned me.
“You don’t need to leave the room when my phone rings. I have nothing to hide from you. And don’t think I forgot that you didn’t answer my question from yesterday.”
I put my head down to avoid him. “I wasn’t avoiding you if that’s what you’re implying.”
“Yeah, you were avoiding the question but it’s cool. I’m sure I will get my answer soon enough.”
All I could do was smile at him. He was so handsome. Even more handsome when he called me out on my bullshit.
“I’m going to get ready for the day. Why don’t we meet in the kitchen for breakfast in thirty?”
Wolf didn’t answer me but instead pulled me close to him. “Or we could lay here for a little longer. Don’t think I didn’t feel you staring a hole into me while I slept,” he said jokingly.
“I don’t know what you are talking about. All I did was make sure you were comfortable.” I blushed because he busted me. Here I thought he was in such a deep sleep, but he allowed me to stare at him. I had to admit it felt good to be in his arms. The last thing I wanted to do was move. As good as it felt to be laid up with Wolf, I also dreaded what Abel would say if he knew what was going on between Wolf and me.
At some point I heard Wolf snoring lightly, so I took that as sign to ease out of the bed. My stomach growled so loud in the process I was afraid it would wake him. I pulled the cover over Wolf and took one last look at him before I left the room. When I made it to my room, I felt giddy like a schoolgirl with a crush.
I couldn’t believe that I spent the night with Wolf. The euphoric feeling that swept over me was very different than the fear I felt a few short days ago. I said a short prayer of gratitude in the recent change of events while I got ready for my day.
Thirty minutes later, I was freshly showered and dressed. I was a creature of habit in some ways, so my breakfast would be the same as yesterday. Wolf probably was still asleep, so I made him another omelet. I just added different things to it today. I would have to find something to entertain me while I was here. A normal person would enjoy the ability to sit around all day and do nothing. However, the idea of sitting on the couch watching television all day made me itch.
I was in the middle of enjoying my food when Wolf’s cologne filled my nostrils. His smell was a combination of woodsy vanilla spice, and it was so manly. I felt his presence as Wolf approached me. He kissed my forehead before taking the seat beside me.
“I wasn’t sure what you wanted for breakfast, so I made you another omelet.”
“That’s perfect, thank you. My uncle called me, and few of the guys from the club are going to be here in a few. I’m sure they want to talk about what’s going on with Abel,” he said.
“Oh okay. I guess I can try to figure out something for lunch.”
