She nods slowly. “Yep. It’s happened.”
I sputter a short laugh. “Maybe.”
“Well, just know you can’t keep that from him.Don’t worry, JD. The way Caleb looks at you, I’m sure he’ll never let you go.”
But I’m not her, I repeat in my head.
Will I lose Caleb when he realizes that?
The referee blows the whistle to end the match.
“Yeah!” Dante yells as we high-five each other andthe team clusters around to celebrate another victory.
We’re getting closer to the finals.
After shaking hands with the other team, I meet myfamily at the sideline.
“You were fantastic, son,” Dad praises withexcited pats on my shoulder. “Just out of this world.”
Mom laughs. “You truly were. Congratulations, honey.”
Noah shoves me back playfully. “Never had adoubt.”
“Thanks, guys,” I laugh out and comb over mysweaty hair.
I search for Jordyn.
My heart skips a beat when I glimpse her comingthrough the crowd.
“Just a sec.” I steer from my family to meet herhalfway.
“Congratulations. You were amazing.” Her eyessparkle with the big smile on her gorgeous face.
“How about a sweaty kiss?” I flirt.
Jordyn glances over my shoulder and back to me.“Your parents are—uh…mm….”
I silence her words with a smooch.
Her cheeks are a shade of pink when I ease back, and she places her hair behind her ears as if shy.
“Is this Jordyn?” Mom sputters, drawing closerwith Dad and Noah.
“Oh, wow,” Noah shamelessly gawks at my girlfriend.“You are hot.”
I smack the back of this neck, and Dad sighs andgives him a pointed look.
Jordyn snorts.
“Sorry. That’s my idiot brother, Noah. My parents,Gavin and Deanna.”
“It’s nice to meet you guys,” Jordyn says as sheshakes their hands.
“It’s good to meet you finally,” Mom gushes.“We’ve heard so much.”
“Oh.” She looks at me with a modest expression.
“You should join us for dinner,” Dad offers. “Tocelebrate another victory.”
