“Hey. I’ll be back by the time Mom and Dad arehome.”
“Cool,” Noah says nonchalantly. “See you, Jordyn.”
He heads upstairs.
Maybe he’s used to his big brother having girlsspend the night when their parents are away.
“Stop,” Caleb implores as if he hears my thoughts.“You’re creating scenarios. I can tell.”
I sniff.
He interlocks our fingers. “Don’t let anythingruin what happened.”
That puts a smile on my face. “I won’t.”
He hauls me into his chest for a kiss before wetake off from his house.
When we arrive on campus, I invite Caleb to theroom since Scarlett’s already left. He waits on my bed while I change intoshorts and a flowy blouse and grab the laundry bag.
Caleb pulls up at my home several minutes later.
“Uh, is it pancakes for lunch?” he inquires, flashinga cute smile when I look at him. “Plus, I’d like to play soccer with your dadagain.”
“Geez.” I snort. “Come on.”
He grabs my laundry bag, carrying it for me to thefront door.
“It’s me!” I yell. “Caleb’s here too.”
My parents step out of the living room with aweird look on their faces.
“Hi, honey,” Mom says, hugging me. “It’s good tosee you again, Caleb.”
“How’s it going, Mrs. Davis? Mr. Davis?”
They bounce their eyes between us.
I scowl. “Uh, something wrong?”
Mom motions to the living room. “Caleb, would youmind waiting in there, please? We want to speak to Jordyn in private.”
“Of course.” He glances at me with a scowl as hesteps past, entering the living room.
“Why didn’t you tell us you started seeing Dr.Sharma again?” Mom questions in a low tone.
My shoulders wilt.
Dad rests his hands on his hips.
I look from one to the other as I ask, “How’d youfind out?”
“The bill,” Dad answers. “We cover your healthinsurance, remember?”
“Right.”
Mom touches my arm. “Are you okay, sweetheart?”
They both seem worried.
