Visiting Dr. Sharma and sending my mind back intime must have nudged the vault. Hopefully, only the memories from the fosterhome are triggered, and nothing else spills out.
Skipping class gives me two hours before work, soI walk across campus to the soccer field.
Caleb’s warming up with his teammates, but itappears they haven’t started practice yet.
I wave to Aaron when he looks this way. He wavesback, and delays for a beat before a man in a tracksuit draws his attention.
The curvy girl standing on the sideline catches myeyes. She’s recording the players.
“Jordyn?” My body ignites from Caleb’s voice. Thefact that he has such an effect on me is wild.
I notice the girl is focused on him as he jogsover.
“Hey.”
“Will your coach get mad? I don’t want to botheryou.”
“You could never be a bother.” He edges closer tostroke my cheek. “We still have a few minutes. Waiting for the other guys. What’s up?”
I look at the girl again. “Who’s that? Why is shewatching you?”
He smirks. “Someone’s jealous. That’s Vicky.Dante’s cousin. She’s making a reel for me. Didn’t you say I needed a betterone without screaming girls?”
“So you asked another fangirl?” I grate, stillagitated from the emotions of that memory.
Caleb scowls. “Vicky’s a film major. She doesstuff like that all the time.”
“Yeah, sure.” I sniff. “How are you thanking herfor her service? Will you fuck her? I bet you fucked the others. I hear youhave lots of groupies.”
“What the hell?” Confusion twists his features, and he shifts in the spot. “Why are you acting like this?”
“Forget it. I’m going to work.”
I turn to leave.
Caleb grabs my hand. “Don’t walk away. Talk to me.What’s brought this on?”
“Nothing,” I grunt and pull my hand free.
“Jordyn—”
“Rosmond!” His coach yells out to him. “Please, don’t let us interrupt.”
He looks back and huffs. “Shit.” Turning to me, hesays, “I’ll pick you up later. We’ll talk about this.”
“Don’t. I don’t want you to pick me up. I’ll get aride from Yuri like last night.”
“No,” he grits. “I’ll see you at nine, and we’lltalk.”
Caleb hurries back to the others, and they proceedwith a light jog around the field.
I glare at the blonde on the sideline beforemarching off. It turns out not much has changed with me. I’m still jealous ofgirls around Caleb.
Ugh. That damn memory messed with my emotions andmade me act like an ass when I should do the opposite.
It’s better to focus on strengthening myrelationship with Caleb. We’ll leave the past behind, and maybe that will eraseDove and let him see me.
I’m bewildered as fuck by Jordyn.
