Page 53 of A Pretty Fixation

“I’m not.” But it’s in my voice. “I’m only goingwith you cause I’m hungry and have a craving for a burger.”

He sniffs. “Sure.”

A shaky breath falls from my lips when he takes myhand, leading me to his car.

I glance at his hand and then at him, wetting mylips at the fantasy of touching his skin, tracing the moles on his neck, andcombing my fingers through his hair.

Perhaps I’m the one fixated. There’s no otherexplanation for the intense emotions and chaotic desire burning me all over.

Caleb leaves campus the second we’re in the car.

Minutes later, he pulls into an eatery and gamingcenter that stays open late.

We get out of the car at the same time.

“Aren’t you tired after the match?” I ask.

He smirks. “I’m never too tired for you. I’d stayup all night with you if you asked.”

Heat floods my cheeks, and I can’t even respond.

“Let’s have some fun.”

We enter the lively building and pause in theentrance, looking around. Quite a few people are here having a good time.

“You get the first pick,” Caleb declares.

“That one.” I point to the empty air hockey table.

We walk over, and he puts cash into the side tostart the game.

We’re both great players, but Caleb isn’t a matchfor me. Giggles burst out every time I score. His reaction makes it even moreentertaining.

He claps when I win, seeming impressed. “Nice.”

I raise my shoulders in a cocky shrug. “My parentssent me to summer camp during middle school to help me make friends. They hadair hockey. I’m still the reigning champ to this day.”

“Ha.” He looks around the place. “How aboutbasketball?”

“Sure.”

We mosey over to the vacant hoops. Caleb starts upthe machine, and we begin shooting right away, trying to beat each other beforethe time runs out.

“Ugh!” I grunt when I miss a shot.

Caleb laughs. “Might not get lucky with this one.”

“We’ll see about that,” I quip, giggling when hemisses a few shots too.

It runs down to the final seconds, and we increaseour throwing speed, laughing at our failed attempts.

The machine buzzes when the time runs out.

Caleb checks the score and huffs as he realizes Ibeat him again.

“Yes!” I giggle excitedly.

He watches me with delight. “You do know I’mletting you win.”
