Domenico eases over and kisses me softly.

He’s about to stand when an overwhelming forceengulfs my body, and the words rush out. “Tiamo, Domenico.”

Satisfaction blooms in his features, making himsettle back on the sofa. “You love me? Despite the killer, you love me?”

“Yes. My heart is yours. I…fell in love with you.”

“Solari.” He cradles my face, eyes gleaming withpalpable adoration. “I fell in love with you the moment I saw you eight yearsago.” He’s about to kiss me when popping echoes in the air.

“Oh my god! I know that sound.”

“We’re under attack.” A dark mask instantly fallsover his face, and Domenico tugs me from the sofa.

I’ve been enjoying our getaway so much that Ialmost forgot about the threats to our lives.

I yelp when he kicks a button at the side of thecoffee table. A drawer flies out, revealing weapons.

He quickly grabs two guns and slaps in loadedclips.

My eyes are wide open.

Heart sprinting.

“I’ll protect you,” he swears, shoving one of theguns into his pants. He retrieves another from the drawer, check the bullets, and hands it to me. Then he hauls me into the passage. “Go to the bedroom andlock yourself in the closet. Stay there until I come for you. Shoot anyone elsewho tries. Understood?”

“I-I’ve never fired a gun before,” I stammer.“Ican’tkillsomeone, Domenico.Take it.”

He grunts as more gunfire resounds from outside.“I’ll make sure you never use it. But you must keep it with you. Now go!”

I dash down the passage into the bedroom, lockingthe door behind me. Then I hurry into the closet, press the latch, and crouchin the corner, pointing the gun at the door.

Tears pool down my face from the immense fearrocking my body. It’s happening again; only this time, there is no secretpassage to escape.

Just when I was starting to believe the danger wasbehind us, this happens.

I pray that Domenico will be all right, that we’llboth survive the night.

Fuck.

My once considered sanctuary is under attack.

I don’t even have to wonder by whom. It’sundoubtedly Luca behind the hit.

How he found us, I have no clue.

Sneaking out the side door, I quickly duck in thebushes, watching as my men ward off the bastards coming up the stone steps fromthe dock.

They take down one of my guards and move closer tothe lawn, crouching by the rocks.

My SOS signal activated when I pressed the buttonat the coffee table, so Father should be on his way with reinforcements. I justhave to keep those bastards from breaching the house and taking my wife.

I screw the silencer onto my gun and creep to theoutskirts of the property, using the darkness as cover.

Moving through the bushes, I shift closer and duckby a tree, shooting one of the men at the rocks.

The rest have no idea where the shot came from, and they’re too distracted with my guards on the other side.
