Page 62 of Her Rabid Beasts

“Regina classes?” Minnie pipes from my elbow.

Startled, I pull her into a hug. She ate breakfast with Titus and his seven rare steaks this morning. Minnie laughs and takes my hand, leading me to a group table near Savage, Xander and Yeti. But before I can protest about table choices, I realise Sabrina and Raquel are behind us, too.

Minnie says it before I do. “Wait, we’re all reginas? How did we not know this before?”

But we know why; most animas are too superstitious to talk about their phoenix prophecy or mating group and your position in one before you find your pack. And it was considered a taboo thing to ask.

As we take a seat at our table, excitedly chattering about what we’re possibly here to learn, I cast an eye around to see who’s here from the first and second-year students.

The first thing I note is that Scythe isn’t here.

Does he think it will ruin his reputation if people think he has a regina? Does he think itlessenshim to have a regina?

Minnie’s taking out her array of pencils and rainbow notepad when she notices me looking around. She also casts her eye about and understands what I’m fussing over.

To my surprise, she grins at me. “You know…” Her voice is sly. “Shark daddy already knows this stuff.”

I gape at her as Sabrina snorts, but Raquel nods in agreement.

“What?” Minnie asks. “He’s almost too old to even be here. He’s clearly just conned his way in to keep an eye on you.”

“H-He knows sh-shit,” Raquel agrees. “Like h-he knows e-everything.”

Shit. I think they’re both right. Animus Academy only accepts eighteen to twenty-five-year-olds and Scythe is a few years older than Savage.

Sabrina grabs my arm. “You lucky bitch. If it were me, I’d be in shark daddy’s bed every night! You know he doesn’t even let anyone touch him. Like at all.”

“Yeah, well, Savage was in my bed last night,” I hiss back, fully aware that the wolf is grinning from ear to ear, unabashedly listening in to our conversation.

“They c-can hear you,” Raquel deadpans.

“Let ‘em.” Sabrina rolls her eyes and waves at Yeti.

“Quieten down.” Lyle’s voice iscoldthis morning as he strides into the classroom and we all shut up and sit straighter at his tone.

Well there you fucking go. I guess he found my little present last night.

My stomach flops on itself. I fucking hate how he makes me feel like a giddy teenager. But it wasn’t a giddy teenager whoconsecratedhis bed, was it?

I try really hard to hide my smirk, but I don’t think I’m successful.

Lyle glances around the room and his purely icy gaze lands on me… and heats up. “Do you have something funny you want to share with the class, Miss Aquinas?”

His tone would send any other beast running in the other direction. Someone in the back even gasps.

“Uh oh,” Minnie mutters under her breath.

My voice is super, duper sweet and I bless him with my prettiest smile. “No, sir. Nothing’s funny. I’m just really looking forward to this class with you.”

And boy am I.

Chapter 27

Xander

The Boneweaver girl is smug as shit and it’s irritating as all hell. Apparently, it’s irritating Lyle just as much because he’s practically white-lipped with rage.

She has this grin on her face that tells me she’s done something she shouldn’t have.
