Relief washes through every artery, capillary, and vein in my body. Everyone is safe, and that’s all that matters. To my great luck, my stomach bandages are still in place, keeping my wounds hidden from the healthcare staff.
Scythe exchanges a look with Lyle.
“You need to stay away from the other students for three days,” Scythe says. “You’ll have to pretend your shackles are on during that time. So?—”
“She’ll stay in my apartment,” Lyle says quickly, his arms tightening possessively around me. “She won’t go anywhere.”
My heart swells, my pussy tingles, and I can’t contain my excitement.
Scythe’s lips twitch and he nods slowly. “Very well.”
“What about the rules?” I ask tentatively. “The Old Laws.”
“What gave you the impression that I don’t make the rules, Aurelia?” Scythe asks. “And after what you did, you don’t get a say either way.”
“Wait, youcareabout me?” I say giddily. Despite Lyle having the nurse disconnect it, that fentanyl is clearly still having a party through my veins.
Scythe gives me a look I can’t interpret. “I have one condition for this and you’ll follow it. Do you understand me?”
The command makes my heart flutter. I still want his lips on mine, so I say quietly, “I’m listening.”
“You keep your mating mark shield down andneverput it back up ever again.”
I swallow. Scythe sliced through all of my shields that one day they tried to kidnap me a few months ago. He saw every single one of my protections and apparently understood what each of them did. But— “Why?” I ask. “Why would you?—”
“It’s as good as a lie, Aurelia,” he says firmly. “I won’t have you lying to me. To us.”
He glowers down at me and the room suddenly gets colder.
I blow out a breath in surprise. So Scythe finds a lie as offensive as slander against him. Alright, noted.
Slowly, I lower my mating mark shield.
Three marks blaze to life before me and one behind me. I’m going to have to get used to this. They’re stunning to look at and the way each of them makes me feel all fuzzy and giddy--
Scythe’s eyes fix on my neck with predatory interest until he nods. “Good girl.”
My stomach flips on itself multiple times. I want to beam at him, but I bite my lip instead.
With that, Scythe gestures to Xander. “Make a door.”
To my explicit surprise, the dragon strides to somewhere behind me and magic thrums through the air. The very wall groans for a moment before cold air sweeps through the room.
“I never get tired of watching that,” Savage says happily and bounds around the bed.
The bed squeaks as Lyle gets off it, carrying me with him. And wouldn’t you know it, Xander is leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, and next to him is a new dragon-trick door, the steps climbing up into the darkness.
Chapter 55
Savage
Aurelia is finally letting me look after her. Well, me and Lyle.
And it’s getting my wolf madly excited. I’m with her on Lyle’s bed, while Lyle putters about in his bathroom and Scythe and Xander are in the living room, probably raiding the kitchen or talking business.
I press a possessive kiss to my regina’s forehead.
“I want these off,” she sighs, looking down at her two forearm casts. “But I don’t have the energy to heal the bones all the way just yet.”
