This is my mate. His scent fills my brain, heady and luxurious. It makes my body languid and pliant. I bow into his hard body, pressing my breasts into his hard chest. He works out. He’s strong. The words leave my mouth in a wanton moan. “I need you inside me.”

That mouth stops their delicious movement, and his whole body goes still. The words hang in the quiet, dark place that lies between us.

“They call me Ghoul, regina. You have not earned my real name.”

The name rings a bell in my distant memory, but I cannot place it. But before I can ask another question, his weight eases off me and those red pinpricks are overcome by shadow. His entire body dissolves into darkness, dissipating into the room like smoke. It fades into nothing, disappearing completely.

Like he was never here. Like he never even existed.

That bastard. He comes here, gets me all worked up, and then leaves?

Breathing hard, I glance over at Minnie, but my eyes are pulled back into her purple armchair. Eugene sits in it, sleeping soundly, by his even breathing.

Quietly, I get out one of my vibrators. I need to dispel the crazy level of arousal Ghoul just brought out in me.

But one part of me is grateful because the sheer power rolling off him in cold waves tells me he’s so dangerous that sex with him might make me implode completely.

I have a feeling that I’ve just met my most dangerous mate.

Chapter 45

Aurelia

The next morning, I wake up to Savage curled tightly around my back and Minnie ducking into the shower. Eugene is still on the purple armchair. I don’t know what happened to him when Ghoul was here last night, but he seems fine except for a thin golden bow tied around his beak. I frown, staring at the curled ribbon, that type that my nanny used to use on my birthday and Christmas presents. It’s shiny and has been tightened into a bow, keeping his beak shut. But Eugene slept peacefully, and with no other signs of Ghoul hurting him.

Ghoul.

As if he knows my thoughts are on another mate, Savage growls softly into my neck, tickling me with the vibration. “Regina,” he murmurs sleepily.

I sigh in contentment, turning around to kiss my wolf on the mouth. With his eyes still closed, he grumbles against my lips, “He was here last night, wasn’t he?” I go still. “I can smell him on you.”

I sit up and push him, excitedly wanting information. “YouknowGhoul? What is he? What are all those shadows? Why are his eyes like that?”

Savage rubs his eyes as he blinks them open. “Did you recognise him from Halfeather’s dungeon?”

“I sensed it. But I didn’t see him in person then.”

He rolls off my bed and lands on his feet, straightening to look down on me. “He’s dangerous. I don’t like that he’s here. But we can’t stop him.”

Savage calling someone dangerous piques my interest.

“No one can stop him?”

Savage shrugs. “He’s… a real piece of work.”

The irony of this makes me laugh. “Alright, I’ll have to see you later. I need to talk to Minnie in private about her love life.”

He leans down to kiss me and I’m surprised when it’s a forehead kiss. “I just can’t have you out of my sight after what happened.” He snags my chin with his thumb and forefinger. “That’snevergoing to happen again. Not on my watch.”

“Eugene saved me.”

Savage smiles faintly. “But I should have been there. I’m sorry, my princess.”

I doubt those words have ever come out of his mouth as many times as in the past few weeks.

“I know,” I reply softly. “It’s okay. I forgive you.”

He landed himself in confinement after defending my ass, after all.
