“Scythe!”I call out sharply through our mind connection.“We have a situation.”

“Deal with it,”comes the curt reply.“I’m soaking in the pool.”

“What? Now?”

“I need to burn the residual serpent magic from my blood. You’ll need to fly me to the coast later tonight.”

“Where’s Lyle?”

“With the headmistress.”

“Savage is about to blow up the goddam school!”

“Well, go and stop him then.”

He slams down the door on our communication, and I storm down the stairs. I learned long ago that if Scythe is dealing with something, it’s best to leave him to it.

Swearing about the madness of sharks and wolves, I shoot out of the dorm.

Chapter 4

Savage

Iposition the final explosive at the base of the anima dorm and beckon to my little leopard friend to follow me as I move back. I can’t very well make sweet love to my beautiful regina if I’m blown to pieces now, can I?

It took all of forty-five minutes to blackmail a couple of my spotted friends to make me some explosives big enough to bring down a four-story building. They are good at making little useful devices, and we are going to set them all off from afar at the same time.

The Forklift Brothers spent a little time distracting the guards with a student who “managed” to get his entire arm stuck down a toilet. Bob’s your uncle and now I’m ready to go.

“Ready, spotties?” I ask the gathered felines. “On my count?—”

One of the kits whose name I don’t care to know gives me a panicked look under his comb over. “But, Mr Fengari, there are girls in there.”

“Yes,” I say, not so patiently. “But the prettiest one is farbeneaththe building. This is the way I get to her.”

Pickle, one of the nerdy leopards who made the bomb, clears his throat. “Sir,” he says nervously behind his protective goggles. “Should we, er… give them a chance to get out?”

“Who?” I frown disapprovingly at him.

“Um… the other animas?”

“Oh,” I say slowly. I forgot about other people for the moment. Correction. Didn’t care about them for the moment.“Hear ye, hear ye!”I broadcast into the minds of all the animas in the old building.“Get out of the anima dorm in one minute because I’m about to blast it up to the Wild Mother herself!”

There are a couple of yelps and shadowy female bodies begin to dart around by the light in the dorm windows.

As I tap my foot, something prickles at the side of my awareness. I put up all my telepathic shields so neither of my brothers could sway me from my path. But sometimes when I get excited, like during sex or setting up a bomb, it’s possible for things to slip through to them. I think it’s because I like my brothers a little too much.

Just as the first animas bolt out their front door, the hairs on the backs of my arms stand on end.

The heat slams into me first. Everyone else scatters in all directions and I dive to the ground, just as holy hot red dragon fire lights up the night.

“You’re not blowing up this beautiful piece of architecture!” Xander roars.

I roll to my feet to face one hell of an angry dragon, stomping up to me, all six-foot-eight of him.

“Yes I am!” I shout back, pointing at the building. “My regina is under there!”

“It’sheritagelisted, Savage.” Xander shoves his face right up to mine.
